Abstract

JANITA AZIZ & M. AMIR. 1988.Some ectoparasites collecting methods of racing pigeon (Columba livia Gmelin). Berita Biologi 3(8):382 - 385.Extraction of ectoparasites of living racing pigeons was done using modified "Fait Isle".The insectisides used for the extraction were pyrethrum,caumaphos and chloroform.The number of acarines extracted during the night was higher than that during the day.In addition insecticides spraying treatment extracted more acarines than fumigation.From the 3 kinds of insecticides used,chloroform proved to kill more acarines than the other two insecticides.

Abstract

SRI HARTINI & JAMTA AZIZ. 1986. Rearing Tabanus rubidus (Diptera : Tabanidae) in the laboratory. Berita Biologi 3 (6) : 273 - 276. Horseflies Tabanus rubidus were reared in the laboratory under 27.5-°C room temperature. Flies from the field layed eggs 5.8 days (i-7 days) and hatching leaching 62.3%.The aquatic larvae required "I i as sheltei plant Two 15 monthsweie needed before larvae could be transfeired to a sintable substrate for pupation. An average of 13.5 days (18-40 days) was required for pupation The total period required to develop from eeg to imago was 109 da\s 92 114 da\s) (sexual ratio between males and females was 1.2 : 1).The first generation of flies obtained could only survue for 9.4 days (5 - 12 days) without ansisn at being abls to produce offspring. Rearing techni ques for each developmental stadia are discussed

Abstract

Maccrocheles mendAriUs are the abundant mite species found in poultry litter in Bogor Municipality. However, their potential as predators ofhouseflies eggs and larvae are yet not known. An effort to study their life cycle has been done in the laboratory with an hou/iy observation.The eggs and larvae could not be found whereas the pmtonymphal stAge Were 18.67 hours oh Average And deutonymphal Were 29.04hours.The average size of protonymphAl'stage were 33.97 X 24.53 /Urn And deutonymphal were 38.44 x 32.15 jum. All of these progeny were not known whether from the fertilized or unfertilized femAles.
