Abstract

This paper addresses a control frequency scheme of the microgrid system using a fractional order PID controller. The proposed Microgrid system is consisted of a photovoltaic system, wind turbine generator, diesel engine generator, fuel cell, and different storage systems like battery energy storage systems, and flywheel energy storage systems. The principal objective of the present paper is to limit the frequency and power deviations by the application of the proposed controller which has five parameters to be determined through optimization techniques. Krill Herd algorithm is used for determining the optimum fractional order PID controller parameters using the integral of squared error. A comparison between the genetic algorithm and krill herd is done, and the obtained simulation results presents that the investigated controller-based Krill Herd outperforms the Genetic Algorithm in terms of fewer fluctuations in power and frequency deviation.

Abstract

This paper aims to study the control of the output voltage of a wind turbine (WT) which is composed of a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) connected to an inverter/rectifier. The first tested control on PMSG is based on the classical direct power control (CDPC); this technique uses the active and reactive power as a control variable. Then, to improve the quality of energy and evaluate the performance of the system, we proposed a high-order sliding mode (HOSM) with space vector modulation (SVM) to controlthe output voltage. As a result, the proposed approach presents attractive features such as the chattering-free behavior of the sliding mode. This system was designed for a wind power conversion application in the case of an isolated site. The computer simulations were provided to verify the validity of the proposed control algorithm using the MATLAB/Simulink software.

Abstract

This article presents an improved direct torque control (DTC) technique with space vector modulation (SVM) for a five-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) using a sliding mode speed control (SMC).The proposed control scheme of the five-phase PMSM combines the advantages of SMC control and the SVM algorithm. The SMC method insensitive to uncertainties, in particular external disturbances and parameter variations. In this paper, the SMC controller is used to control the rotor speed of the five-phase PMSM based on DTC-SVM. The rotor speed response, torque and stator flux are determined and compared with traditional control method. The simulations results confirm the validity and effectiveness of the proposed control technique in terms of performance and robustness against machine parameter variations (inertia variation). The efficiency of the proposed method applied on the five-phase PMSM is verified by the MATLAB/Simulink.

Abstract

Selective Harmonic elimination has emerged as an in-depth research method to replace traditional PWM technology. This study demonstrates the selective harmonic elimination by using a hybrid Genetic algorithm GA and local search (GA-LS) method of a uniform asymmetric multilevel inverter called USAMI That removes the higher-order harmonics defined while maintaining the fundamental voltage needed. This new technology can be implemented at any USAMI level. For example, in this article, we plan to use USAMI at 9 levels and find the optimal switching angle to remove the 5th, 7th, and 11th harmonics.

Abstract

This paper focuses on modeling and closed-loop speed control of a three-phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) fed by a Matrix Converter (MC) based on Field-Oriented Control (FOC). The model considers a set of a small input filter with supply impedance or cable effect, to improve the quality of the input current. A simplified form of the Venturini modulation algorithm is used for switching the matrix converter and a comparative study of two types of speed controllers is presented, namely a proportional integral (PI) and a proportional integral (PI) to improve performances of the drive system in transient and stable conditions. The overall drive system is simulated using Matlab/Simulink environment. The motor performance is evaluated under different operating conditions such as sudden changes in the load or changes in the angular speed reference. The results of the converter MC gives unlimited output frequency, sinusoidal input current and output voltage waveforms and unity input displacement factor. The IP controller is shown to achieve better performance of the speed control loop, with or without the load torque as compared to the PI classic controller.
