Abstract

With the dramatic expansion of new networks such as Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) and Internet-of-Things (IoT), tremendous opportunities have been emerged to incorporate such technologies for valuable tasks. One of these tasks is the smart car parking where there is an imperative demand to manage the parkings in various facilities which may help drivers to save their time. Several research studies have addressed this task using wide range of approaches. However, the energy consumption is still a serious concern. This paper proposes a smart car parking based on cloud-based approach along with variety of sensors. Passive Infrared Sensors (PIRs) have been used to sense the object motion. While Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) sensors have been utilized to sense the light of the parking alarm and display inmformation regarding the occupied and non-occupied parking lots. Finally, multi-micro controller of Arduino have been exploited in order to transmit the information collected to the server. Finally, a prototype Android application has been developed in order to recieve the infromation from the server. Results of simulation showed the efficacy of the proposed method.

Abstract

Three tapered baluns with nonlinear transition are developed for harmonic suppression in dipole antenna. The first balun consists of an exponential profile with the size of a quarter–wavelength for both the height and width with a wideband characteristic. However, for some applications such as narrowband harmonic suppression antennas and wideband-to-narrowband reconfigurable antennas, the suppression of higher operating band is desired. By employing stubs-filter and a defected ground structure (DGS), two narrowband tapered baluns are produced. They are named as an exponential balun-stub and an exponential balun-DGS, respectively, that operate from 1 to 2 GHz. A simulated and measured results that based on the reflection coefficient is found to be better than -10 dB from 1 to 2 GHz. The employment of the stubs and DGS have enabled these baluns to have the capability to reject the unwanted higher frequency band from 2.0 to 10 GHz. Finally, the proposed baluns are employed as a feeding circuit for an ultra wideband (UWB) circular dipole antenna that produces a reasonable outcome.

Abstract

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) allow vehicles to contact one another to provide safety and comfort applications. However, mobility is a great challenge in VANETs. High vehicle speed causes topological changes that result in unstable networks. Therefore, most previous studies focused on using clustering techniques in roads to reduce the effect of vehicle mobility and enhance network stability. Vehicles stop moving at intersections, and their mobility does not impact clustering. However, none of previous studies discussed the impact of vehicle stopping at intersections on base stations (BSs). Vehicles that have stopped moving at intersections continue to send the same information to BSs, which causes duplicated information. Hence, this study proposes a new method named dynamic multiagent (DMA) to filter cluster information and prevent duplicated information from being sent to BSs at intersections. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated through simulations during the use of DMA and without-DMA (W-DMA) methods based on real data collected from 10 intersections in Batu Pahat City, Johor, Malaysia. Overall, the proposed DMA method results in a considerable reduction in duplicated information at intersections, with an average percentage of 81% from the W-DMA method.
