Abstract

Nowadays, inverters are power electronics devices used in the renewable energy conversion systems. Therefore, the continuity of service of power converter has been a major concern. In this paper, a technique for diagnosing multiple open switch faults in three phase voltage inverters feeding Doubly Fed Induction Generator DFIG is presented. It is based on the so-called the Lissajous curves of DFIG rotor currents. For this purpose, the modeling of a non-defected wind conversion system based on mathematic model created in Matlab Simulink is firstly presented, after that, an indirect stator field vector-oriented control is applied to obtain the wind system performance. Finally, rotor currents Lissajous curves are analyzed in case of a non-defected and defected inverter. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method

Abstract

In the current paper, the inverter feeding doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) in the case of short circuit switches fault is presented. Defects diagnosis is based on the so-called the Lissajous curves of DFIG rotor currents. For this purpose, the modeling of the variable speed wind energy conversion chain based on the DFIG, is firstly introduced, after that a description of the voltage source inverter operating mode is presented. Finally, rotor currents Lissajous curves are analyzed in case of a non-defective and defective inverter. Simulation results were achieved using MATLAB^®- SIMULINK^® package, thus confirming the efficiency of the proposed method.

Abstract

Condition monitoring and on-line detection have attracted several researchers in order to carry out an efficient diagnosis of machine failures. Therefore, the detection in early stage avoids system breakdown and reduce the maintenance cost. This paper presents a new diagnosic approach to detect the broken bars and broken end ring faults for a squirrel cage induction machine based on the fast Fourier transform analysis applied on a new signature as the voltage of an auxiliary winding. The auxiliary winding is a small coil inserted between two of the stator phases, the explicit expression of its voltage is presented. The signal is monitored in six faults cases under a different load level, the emergence of the fault frequencies changes for each kind of failure. The successfully simulation results obtained show the effectiveness of this approach.

Abstract

Voltage dips are brief but frequent disturbances that can be defined as the most important problem affecting all electrical grids, it cannot be completely avoided and represent the main priority for the industry. This study remains part of monitoring the quality of electrical energy’s field. Its aim is to apply two approaches signals for improving the failure recognition in wind turbine conversion chain. One is based on the combination of spectral analysis of stator current by fast Fourier transform and Lissajous curves technique of grid currents. The second approach is based on the stator current analysis by discrete wavelet transform which is considered an ideal tool for this purpose due to its time-frequency localization. These defects diagnosis methods have shown their efficiency in detection, visualization and analysis of voltage dips in order to develop a control strategy for a wind turbine requiring continuity of its service despite the presence of voltage dips.
