Abstract

Qurban worship is one of the essential rituals in Islam, encompassing not only a spiritual dimension but also significant economic, social, and environmental impacts. Observed annually during Eid al-Adha, the practice of Qurban reflects the obedience of Muslims to Allah SWT's command and serves as a tangible manifestation of sacrifice and social care. This study aims to analyze the concept of Qurban from a broader perspective by integrating economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The article examines how Qurban functions not only as a ritual act of worship but also as a mechanism for fostering social welfare and economic equity through the distribution of meat to underprivileged communities. Additionally, the environmentally friendly management of Qurban animals is highlighted as a crucial factor in promoting environmental sustainability. The research method utilized in this study is library research, involving a review of academic literature and relevant documents, as well as an analysis of Qurban practices in diverse regions. The findings reveal that Qurban has the potential to reduce economic disparities, strengthen social solidarity, and enhance community awareness regarding environmental conservation. The integration of Qurban with these three dimensions can deliver broader benefits to society, ensuring that the values inherent in Qurban extend beyond spirituality to positively impact social, economic, and environmental well-being.

Abstract

Al-Arba’in al-Nawawiyah is recognized as one of the most celebrated collections of hadith in the Islamic scholarly tradition. Compiled by Imam al-Nawawi, this work brings together forty-two carefully selected authentic sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), encompassing the essential pillars of Islamic teachings including theology (aqidah), worship (ibadah), jurisprudence (fiqh), ethics (akhlaq), and social interactions (mu'amalah). Due to its concise yet comprehensive content, this compilation has served as a foundational reference in Islamic education across the Muslim world. Among the core themes explored in this collection is the concept of amar ma’ruf nahi munkar the imperative to promote good and prevent wrongdoing. This principle is not limited to personal piety but plays a vital role in shaping a morally conscious and socially cohesive community. The aim of this study is to examine how this concept is presented in Al-Arba’in al-Nawawiyah and interpreted across generations through numerous sharh (commentaries) by classical and contemporary scholars. Adopting a qualitative-descriptive approach through textual analysis, this study investigates more than fifty-one commentarial works on Al-Arba’in al-Nawawiyah. The analysis focuses on hadiths directly related to amar ma’ruf nahi munkar, with particular attention to how scholars employ both linguistic (lughawi) and legal (fiqhi) frameworks using analytical (tahlili) and general (ijmali) methods to extract meaning and explore social implications. Findings reveal that linguistic and legal interpretations in these commentaries enrich the understanding of the relevant hadiths and underscore the broader societal function of amar ma’ruf nahi munkar. Rather than a mere moral exhortation, the principle emerges as a strategic tool for fostering collective responsibility, preserving ethical order, and nurturing a just and compassionate society. It thus stands not only as a religious obligation but as a cornerstone of Islamic social ethics.

Abstract

This study examines the transformation of Acehnese Sufism as an expression of Islamic spirituality and a foundation of social identity from the classical to the contemporary era. Aceh, known as the Veranda of Mecca, possesses a distinctive and deeply rooted Sufi tradition within the history of Islam in the Malay Archipelago. The research aims to explore how Sufi teachings and practices in Aceh have evolved, adapted, and contributed to shaping the region’s socio-political and cultural dynamics. Employing a historical-phenomenological approach, this study investigates the works of classical Sufi figures such as Hamzah Fansuri, Syamsuddin al-Sumatrani, and Abd al-Ra’uf al-Sinkili, as well as the changing role of Sufism during the colonial, post-independence, and digital eras. The findings reveal that Acehnese Sufism has transformed from contemplative spirituality into an engaged spirituality (sufisme engagé), actively participating in political resistance, post-conflict reconstruction, and digital religious movements. This revitalization demonstrates that Acehnese Sufism serves not only as a religious heritage but also as a dynamic source of moral and social identity amid the challenges of modernity. The study contributes to the broader discourse on Islam Nusantara by offering new insights into the integration of spiritual and social dimensions in the development of Islam in Aceh.
