Abstract

Most of Holstein in Indonesia were imported from European countries which have temperate climate (13-25 0C). If those Holstein were kept under high temperature and high humidity and exposed to direct solar radiation, the cattles would be experienced with heat stress, resulted in decreasing appetite, increased water intake, decreased metabolism, increased catabolism, increased heat loss through evaporation, decreased hormone concentration in blood, increased body temperature, increased respiration and heart rate and behavioral changes. To reduce the heat stress can be achieved by environment modification, such as type of animal house construction, type of roof material selected for animal house and determination of animal housing height. The improvement of environmental condition was gained for maintaining the animal heat balance in steady state, due to reducing the thermoregulatory responses (i.e heart rate, respiration rate and mean body temperature). Controlling the heat stressed animals to lower thermoregulatory activities will improve their productivity. Abstract

This experiment was conducted to analyze the temperature and relative humidity distribution in dairy barn of Friesian Holstein (FH) using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) as a basic consideration for dairy barn design. The capacity of the dairy barn was 20 heads of FH with tail to tail model. The dimensions of the dairy barn were: 13 m in length, 6.3 m in width, and 5.75 m in height. The floor was made from concrete with 20 slope. Asbestos was used as roof of the dairy barn, whereas frame of the dairy barn was made from steel. The results of the analysis showed that during the daytime, air temperature inside the dairy barn increased by the height from floor level. The CFD simulation showed clearly the temperature distribution in the dairy barn. Air temperature obtained from CFD simulation was in line with that of the measured values. Therefore, it can be used as basic consideration for the dairy barn design with respect to low air temperature and uniform air temperature distribution. It was recommended that one of the best design configurations is 6.25 m high, 8.3 m wide, 0.4 m high of wall. The best design could decrease 0.474 0C of air temperature and increased dry matter intake of dairy cattle 0.403 kg per day per head. The amount of heat production of FH was considered to determine the best design of dairy barn. Key words: dairy barn design, air temperature distribution,computational fluid dynamics (CFD)

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to: 1) design the stocking density of broiler reared at a closed house system in wet tropical climates based on the heat released by broiler, 2) design broiler harvesting system based on the housing heat load, and 3) design required housing area based on the broiler age. The housing design used to determine the broiler stocking density was based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with Solid Works Flow Simulation software. The method had good validation shown by small number of average percentage of deviation (6.07%). Simulation was carried out by changing the number of broilers i.e. 16, 18, 20, 21 and 22 birds/m2. According to the CFD simulation result, total heat load inside the house was 233.33 kW at 21 birds/m2 at weight 1.65 kg/bird. At that stocking density the housing can be occupied by 27,224 birds until 22 days of age. The highest total weight was produced by daily harvesting started from 22 to 32 d. It can be concluded that the stocking density of closed house for broiler is 34.65 kg/m2, total production is 45,717 kg per period and the required area for 27,224 broilers is  248.63 m2 (1 to 7 days of age broiler), 562.52 m2 (8 to 14 days of age broiler) and 1,000 m2 (15 to 22 days of age broiler). Key words: broiler, computational fluid dynamics, stocking density, total heat

Abstract

Gerbera merupakan salah satu jenis bunga potong yang banyak diminta pasar. Dilihat dari besarnyapenjualan bunga potong gerbera di pasar bunga Rawabelong, berarti terbuka peluang bagi petani untuk meningkatkanproduksi bunga potong tersebut. Namun demikian, satu hal yang harus diperhatikan bahwa jenis bunga potonggerbera cukup banyak, sehingga perlu dipilah jenis-jenis yang paling disukai konsumen. Tujuan penelitian adalahuntuk mengetahui preferensi konsumen hotel terhadap bunga potong gerbera. Penelitian dilakukan di hotel-hotelberbintang 4 dan 5 di wilayah DKI Jakarta, pada bulan September 2005-Februari 2006. Pemilihan hotel berbintang 4dan 5 adalah dengan pertimbangan bahwa hotel tersebut merupakan sentra kegiatan pelaku bisnis yang menggunakanrangkaian bunga segar sebagai dekorasi ruangan. Responden penelitian adalah konsumen antara, yaitu floris-florishotel yang menyediakan bunga untuk dekorasi ruangan hotel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor yang palingmemengaruhi konsumen dalam melakukan pembelian bunga potong adalah pendidikan. Dari sisi produk, gerberayang banyak dicari konsumen adalah yang berkualitas tetapi harga tidak terlalu mahal dan diantar ke tempat olehsupplier. Promosi bunga melalui pameran merupakan salah satu kemudahan bagi responden untuk mendapatkaninformasi mengenai bunga potong umumnya dan gerbera khususnya. Selain itu, konsumen floris menyukai gerberaintroduksi yang sudah lama dikembangkan di Indonesia atau sering disebut sebagai jenis lokal, semua warna, ukuranbunga sedang, ketahanan bunga sekitar 5 hari.ABSTRACT. High selling of gerbera cut flower in Rawabelong is a signal forfarmers to increase their production. However, it should be noted that the type of gerbera is quite a lot. Therefore,farmer should be aware of the type of gerbera mostly desired. This study was intended to examine hotel consumerpreference on gerbera cut flower. The research was carried out in 4 and 5 star hotel in Jakarta from September 2005to February 2006. Ten of 4 star hotels and 9 of 5 star hotels were selected purposively based on the potential ofbussinesmen using flower arrangement for room decoration. The florists of these hotels who provided flower forroom decoration were chosen as respondents. The results indicated that the main factor influenced the consumersto buy flower was education. In term of product, gerbera mostly demanded by consumers was of best quality, withreasonable price, and delivered by supplier. Flower exhibition provided an easy opportunity to get information oncut flowers in general and especially for gerbera. Furthermore, florist prefered gerbera that has been introduced anddeveloped in Indonesia for decades, or so called local variety of all color, medium size, 5 days vaselife.

Abstract

Cacing sutra (Casut) merupakan pakan alami mengandung nutrisi yang baik untuk pertumbuhan benih ikan (burayak). Pengembangan budidaya casut telah dilakukan oleh kelompok tani Sinar Harapan tetapi belum menunjukkan hasil yang memuaskan, sedangkan permintaan casut terus meningkat. Casut yang dihasilkan belum mampu memenuhi kebutuhan karena keterbatasan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan pembenih casut sehingga kegagalam budidaya casut masih cukup tinggi. Untuk mengatasi kendala tersebut maka dilakukan pengabdian dengan tujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan anggota kelompok tani dalam budidaya casut dan meningkatkan kuantitas dan kualitas casut yang dihasilkan. Metode budidaya casut yang diberikan kepada anggota kelompok tani adalah sistem budidaya menggunakan apartemen dan resirkulasi air. Kegiatan pelatihan meliputi pembuatan pakan casut, proses karantina casut, cara pemeliharaan dan pemanenan casut. Hasil pelatihan sistem budidaya casut mampu meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan anggota kelompok berdasarkan respon sebesar 80% dan budidaya casut sistem apartemen bisa meningkatkan kuantitas dan kualitas casut ramah lingkungan.
