Abstract

Provenance trials is one of planting test activities aimed at finding the best provenance in a certain area of forest plantations. The best provenances can be used for establishing the seed sources in the location. The objective of this research was to identify the character or trait performed in every provenance of A. mangium to the observed variable and to see the relation between variables in order to find the potential provenances that can be developed as seed sources. Provenance trials stand as an object for this research was planted in 1995 in Parung Panjang Forest Research Area with Completely Random Block Design. The spacing in planting between trees was 3 metres located at 3 blocks. Number of provenances to be observed were 15 provenance. In every provenance was taken 5 trees sample randomly that equal to 75 trees in each block as representave of every provenance. Totally the sample trees was 225 trees from the 3 blocks. The variables to be observed in this research were tree height (X1), clear bole (X2), tree diameter (X3), tree volume (X4), stem form (X5), branching system (X6), dan bentuk tajuk (X7). Analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis biplot dan korespondensi.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari kecenderungan hubungan antara umur pohon dengan potensi produksi dan mutu benih , dan . Benih diunduh di Subanjeriji, Sumatera Selatan, sedangkan untuk and diunduh di Kenangan, Kalimantan Timur. Jarak tanam tegakan pada semua tingkat umur adalah 3 x 3 m. Pada setiap umur di ambil 10 pohon yang dipilih secara acak. Parameter mutu benih adalah berat 1.000 butir, daya berkecambah, dan kadar air. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap dengan umur pohon sebagai faktor.Analisis regresi dilakukan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara umur pohon dengan produksi dan mutu benih. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan umur pohon tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap produksi dan daya berkecambah, namun berpengaruh nyata terhadap kadar air dan berat 1.000 butir benih. Pada umur pohon berpengaruh nyata terhadap produksi dan mutu benih. Kecenderungan produksi benih meningkat setelah umur 9tahun danmencapai maksimal pada umur 10 tahun kemudian menurun setelah umur 13 tahun, sedangkan daya berkecambah tertingginya terjadi pada umur pohon 11 dan13 tahun.Untuk umur pohon berpengaruh terhadap produksi dan daya berkecambah benih. Produksi benih meningkat pada umur pohon 8 tahun dan mencapai maksimal pada umur pohon 9 tahun kemudian produksinya menurun lagi sejalan dengan bertambahnya umur pohon. Daya berkecambah benih cenderung meningkat dengan meningkatnya umur pohon. Dengan demikian pengunduhan benih optimal dapat dilakukan padategakanberumur 5-12 tahun untuk umur 9-13 tahun dan untuk umur 8-16 tahun.

Abstract

Genetic parameters on early growth of Neolamarckia cadamba, an indigenous species with potential as a source of wood timber, were estimated in open-pollinated provenance-progeny tests at two sites in West Java Province, Indonesia. The experiment was conducted using randomized complete block design with 12 provenances, 105 families and 5 replications of 4-tree row plots. Total height and root collar diameter were measured at the age of 18 months growth. Significant differences among the provenances and families within provenances were observed for height and collar diameter at all sites, except for the collar diameter of among provenances at Parungpanjang site. In general, Garut (GSJ) provenance performed better growth at the two sites than Kualakencana (KKP) and Nusa Kambangan (NKJ) provenances. The evaluation of component of variance at the two sites showed that the provenance effects (ranging from 0.5 to 1.7%) contributed more to total variance than family within provenance effects(ranging from 0.4 to 0.6%). Genetic correlations between height and collar diameter were weak to moderate. Heritability was low for all traits at Limbangan, while at Parungpanjang, the heritability was moderate. Estimation of genetic gain for height and diameter by proportional selected family 0.30 was 0.13 and 0.18 for Limbangan and 0.31 and 0.16 for Parungpanjang. Heritability measurement should be sustained to reach stable value. Stable heritability combined with selection of family and selection within family will improve genetic gain.Keywords: Genetic correlation, genetic parameter, heritability, Neolamarckia cadamba, progeny, provenance, selection
