Abstract

From time immemorial, books have had a very intimate relationship in human life. Books are considered a symbol of civilization because of their relationship to reading habits. This is because the habit is an effort to develop human potential through the addition of knowledge. Doing research on the book industry is an interesting thing, because its development in line with technology is amazing. For example, today, reading material in the form of audio-books is increasingly gaining the attention of the world community. Nevertheless, books in physical form still have sentimental value in the hearts of readers, and still dominate the world market. Using a library approach through data collection on the website, this study examines the development of the book industry and its relationship with reading culture in Malaysia. In addition, factors that promote reading culture were also identified. In conclusion, efforts to increase the publication of books and cultivate the community with book activities must be continued and support from all parties must be done so that books can be fully utilized by the community.

Abstract

Educational psychology has undergone a change in the mid-20th century from using a traditional approach to an approach that looks at the intellectual, emotional and social development of students. In the context of education in Malaysia, the traditional approach refers to the practice of teaching and learning carried out in study huts. With such an approach, it is quite difficult to know the potential development of a student. The situation changed when the madrasah system was first introduced. In the madrasah system, studies are conducted according to classes and the syllabus is implemented according to the levels that have been set. This study seeks to examine the thinking of Shaykh Abdullah Fahim (1869 - 1961) an educator who was educated in the traditional stream, but engaged in the task of educating in the madrasah stream from the point of view of educational psychology. Another thing to know is how does he develop awareness and provide insight to students. This qualitative study found that Shaykh Abdullah Fahim is an educator who is wise in adapting the educational situation to the environment. By using a positive psychological approach, he develops mental strength, builds confidence and increases motivation in his students.

Abstract

Sultanate of Aceh is recognized as one of the most important Malay-Muslim kingdom of the past, especially after the fall of the Malacca Sultanate in the 16th century AD. From a large number of its rulers, Aceh was ruled by a king's daughter who came from abroad. One of them was Sultan Alauddin Mansur Shah who hails from Perak located on the Malay Peninsula. But to be presented in this paper is not about the origins of his coming from the state, but rather a contribution to the development of Aceh, especially in the field of knowledge. The study is based on qualitative methods, using data from the writing of the history of Aceh are then analyzed to assess and justify his stature. What can be summed up is that his services as one of the important figures in nurturing the culture of knowledge and religious teachings cannot be ignored. It is very important if more research on it is done in the future in line with the efforts to excavate the treasures of the past so that the historical aspect is always fresh with positive values.

Abstract

This article examines Sheikh Abdullah Fahim's thoughts in hadith study education in Malaysia. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, hadith studies were considered foreign among Malays because they were associated with the youth movement. Returning Sheikh Abdullah Fahim from Mecca in 1916, he introduced formal hadith studies in the madrassa where he taught. Uniquely, Sheikh Abdullah Fahim has a background in traditional method education with authoritative teachers in Mecca which is often associated with the educational methodology of the old movement. Thus, this raises the question of what educational characteristics Sheikh Abdullah Fahim highlighted in the field of hadith that rarely gets the attention of elders in the field. There are three goals to be achieved in this study, discussing the influence that underlies the thoughts of Sheikh Abdullah Fahim in the field of hadith, knowing the approach used by Sheikh Abdullah Fahim in studying the science of hadith and Sheikh Abdullah Fahim's contribution in the field of hadith. This research uses qualitative methods and library approaches to gather information. The results of the study found that Sheikh Abdullah Fahim did a great job in introducing the Nizami curriculum in madrassa studies and succeeded in producing a competent next generation to connect the knowledge of hadith teaching to the community.

Abstract

Sufism and its Relationship with the Development of Human Potential. Research paper: Sufi thought is, in fact, an active mind because humans are seen as potential beings with high levels of consciousness. In the Sufi definition, the consciousness of mysticism is an active consciousness that leads to the introduction of God. This qualitatively conducted survey found that the introduction of God in a Sufi perspective will lead to the development of potential. Using a literature approach, this study also makes a comparison with Western views on the development of human potential. This introduction of God will further cultivate a love for God that will bring forth the knowledge of the development of human potential. This knowledge is a gift of God because, with this knowledge, man develops his potentials and then translates them into creativity, sharpness of mind, and optimism in life by God's truth

Abstract

Abstract: Psycho-religion is classified as the highest spiritual psychotherapy in the field of psychology. This is because the field involves religion that works to increase confidence thus speeding up the healing process. One of the therapies that fall into this category is the practice of reciting Salawat. This practice is common in traditional institutions of learning institutions in the Malay world. In some places, this practice becomes part of the curriculum of study. Some recite it as remembrance, and some recite it in the form of melodic performances such as qasidah, hadrah and so on. This study, however, is limited to the views of prominent educators in Malaya, Shaykh Abdullah Fahim (1869 - 1961) to practice reading the Salawat. The main objective of this study is to look at Shaykh Abdullah Fahim's thoughts on Salawat from a psychological perspective. This study uses a fully qualitative method. For data collection purposes, an archival approach was used. The conclusion of the study was made by using an inductive approach that is by summarizing the findings in general. The study found that the practice of Salawat from the point of view of Shaykh Abdullah Fahim has potential development benefits in terms of emotions, behaviour, and motivation.Keywords: Shaykh Abdullah Fahim; Salawat; psycho-religion; psychologyAbstrak: Psikoreligius tergolong psikoterapi spiritual tertinggi dalam bidang psikologi psikoterapi. Hal ini dikarenakan bidang tersebut melibatkan agama yang berfungsi untuk meningkatkan kepercayaan diri sehingga mempercepat proses penyembuhan. Salah satu terapi yang termasuk dalam kategori ini adalah praktik membaca salawat. Praktik ini sudah menjadi tradisi di lembaga-lembaga lembaga pembelajaran tradisional di dunia Melayu. Di beberapa tempat, praktik ini menjadi bagian dari kurikulum studi. Ada yang membacanya untuk dzikir, dan ada pula yang membacanya dalam bentuk sesajen seperti qasidah, hadrah dan sebagainya. Namun penelitian ini terbatas pada pandangan tokoh pendidik di Malaya, Syekh Abdullah Fahim (1869 – 1961) tentang amalan membaca salawat. Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat pemikiran Syekh Abdullah Fahim tentang salawat dari perspektif psikologis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif penuh. Untuk tujuan pengumpulan data, pendekatan arsip digunakan. Kesimpulan penelitian dibuat dengan menggunakan pendekatan induktif yaitu dengan meringkas temuan secara umum. Studi ini menemukan bahwa praktik salawat dari sudut pandang Syekh Abdullah Fahim memiliki potensi manfaat pengembangan dalam hal emosi, perilaku, dan motivasi.Kata Kunci: Shaykh Abdullah Fahim; salawat; psiko-religius; psikologi

Abstract

The study of positive psychology was first introduced by the American psychologist Seligman in the early 2000s. Included in this study is the role of parents in instilling positive emotions and character strength to children. In addition to parents, teachers also play a role in developing positive psychological behaviors, especially in terms of motivation. This study focuses on the research of Imam Al-Bukhari, a great figure in the field of hadith in the context of whether the family and the education system in his time has had a great influence on his character and psychological behavior to succeed as a leading figure in the field of hadith. This study found that the backbone of Imam Al-Bukhari’s success was due to the blessings and pleasure of his parents and teachers. This factor shows how important the spiritual element is in the field of psychology and it needs to be given attention in that field. As a conclusion, this qualitative pattern study successfully finds spiritual function, in triggering internal motivations that can be harnessed for the strengthening of positive character and emotions in the field of modern psychology.

Abstract

Imam Al-Zarnuji's book entitled Ta'lim Al-Muta'allim is no stranger to students in traditional educational institutions. The emphasis on manners and ethics in the process of teaching and learning as found in this book has given a tremendous influence to the residents of the hut in an effort to develop a noble personality. This book is unique because its debate is not only focused on manners and ethics that serve as an interface to the citizens of the traditional school among themselves and the surrounding community; but also covers the philosophy of knowledge that should be studied in its larger theme of discussion. This study seeks to examine the philosophy of knowledge contained in the book that is often studied by the residents of this hut by using a library approach based on qualitative methodology. The results of the study found that Al-Zarnuji’s philosophy of knowledge has the influence of idealism that emphasizes the ability to think and a positive attitude to succeed. In conclusion, idealism has great implications in the field of education as it builds qualities from a spiritual point of view in human beings.

Abstract

This study involves a comparative analysis between the library management system developed by Melvil Dewey in 1876 and Abd Al-Basit bin Musa Al-Almawi (1502-1573 AD) better known as Al-Almawi who lived in the heyday of the Ottoman Dynasty in the 16th century. The library management system developed by Dewey can be considered dominant at the moment as it is widely used around the world. However, this system is said to have posed some difficulties in terms of maintenance as its field categories have been restricted and field overlap as there are several fields have been grouped in one class. The classification number becomes longer when there are new categories thus causing the process of access and storage to be very complex. To address the problem, this study seeks to examine the system developed by Al-Almawi to see if the system is able to deal with the problem either in terms of technical and development intellectuality. The objective of the study is to find out the characteristics of the system highlighted by Al-Almawi, identify the impact of the system from axiology point of view, and the suitability of the system in the information system management industry. This study uses a fully qualitative approach where the library method is chosen to collect data and information related to the classification and cataloguing system. The data were then analysed using a structuring approach while to conclude the findings of the study, a descriptive approach was used. The results of the study found that the system developed by Al-Almawi not only overcome the problems faced by Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) users, but also give emphasis on manners to knowledge where the materials that contain knowledge should be glorified and arranged in scientific order, where the material with the most truth values will be placed to a higher position. The measure of truth is based on the source of revelation contained therein. Thus, it can be said that significantly, the system developed by Al-Almawi not only pleases work that requires physical nature and planning; but also, soul-blissful and double-oriented because every activity is connected directly to God. The relationship is formed due to the existence of the unity of mind and deed, which is always in the mould of the framework of Tawhid.
