Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of defoliation in maize to the production of ground nut which grown on intercropped pattern with maize. The research was conducted from June until September 2012 in the Balunijuk village, Merawang subdistrict, Bangka Belitung. The experimental design used in randomized block design with 3 treatments, they were: without defoliation (control), and defoliation at 1 and 2 weeks after pollination in maize. The results showed that the maize defoliation treatment gives a better influence on plant height and weight of 100 seeds on ground nut than without defoliation. While the maize, defoliation treatments at 1 and 2 weeks after pollination could increase the number of cobs/maize.

Abstract

Utilization of waste chicken feather and crab shells as compost material is an alternative to reduce the environmental pollution caused by waste. This research is identify and study the effect of the addition of crab shells during composting of chicken feather in improving the physical and chemical quality compost chicken feather. The composition compost consists of 1.75 kg of chicken feathers + 0.15 kg of chicken manure + 0.1 kg bran. Treatment includes research R0 without the addition of crab shells, R1 0,2 kg, R2 0,4 kg, R3 0.6 kg shell crab. This research used a cluster randomized design (RAK) consisting of 4 treatment, which was repeated 3 and each treatment has 3 samples, 36 samples were obtained observations. Observations on the observed variables were analyzed using the F test. If there is a treatment that have a real effect, it will continue to use further testing Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) with a 95% confidence level. Physical parameters include is water conten, temperature, and colour of compost. Parameters chemical include is N, P, K, Ca, C- Organik, and C/N ratio. The results showed that the addition 0.6 kg of crab shells only give the effect in improving quality pH (7,29%), Ca (6,8%), P (1,16%), N-Total (4,16%). Variables that have met quality standards by SNI 19-7030-2004 compost is N-total, pH, Ca, C-Organic and Phosphorus

Abstract

The research aimed to find the appropriate plant spacing and weeding period to onion growth and production in ultisol land. Furthermore, the objective of the research is to identify interaction between plant spacing and weeding period and its effect to onion growth and production. The experiment conducted in May 2014 – July 2014 in Experimental Field, Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries and Biology, Bangka Belitung University. It used Factorial Completely Randomized Design with two factors and three repeated. First factor is plant spacing, consist of J1 (10 x 15 cm) and J2 (20 x 15 cm). Second factor is weeding period, consist of P0 (without weeding), P1 (weeding in 7 day after palnting), P2 (weeding in 14 day after palnting), P3 (weeding in 21 day after palnting), P4 (weeding in 28 day after palnting), P5 (weeding to harvest time). The result showed plant spacing 20 x 15 cm and weeding period until harvest time give the great result to onion growth and production. Furthermore, it showed that no interaction between plant spacing and weeding period
