<![CDATA[Abstract— Hardcore becomes an interesting sub culture by many people with various negative perceptions both in terms of style and deviant behavior. Even worse, due to the negative stereotypes, the Hardcore followers become victims of violence because they are considered disturbing. Straight Edge is the lifestyle, philosophy, and movement of youth in the Hardcore music environment that adheres to clean living style. The Straight Edges contrary with how groups affect individuals. The purpose of this study is to describe the factors that make someone love Hardcore music, the impact of Hardcore music on the life of the Straight Edges, the response of the Straight Edges in responding to the negative stereotypes, and the factors that forming the Straight Edges lifestyle This research has taken used a qualitative approach through the phenomenological method. In this study, researcher used interview techniques with three informants who were divided into three types that is musicians, fans, and activists of Hardcore music programs that are Straight Edge. The results of this study indicate the factors that appeal to Hardcore music, that is: (1) beat that tends to be up–beat, (2) giving "spirit" emotions, (3) Hardcore music lyric themes that tend to criticize social conditions. While the Straight Edges response to the stereotype of Hardcore music is there are those who are ignorant and there are those who tolerate. Factors that influence individuals to be Straight Edge in the Hardcore music environment are the closest positive environment, the music, faith, principles, health, and consequences. Keywords: Stereotype, Group Influence, Hardcore Straight Edge Abstrak— Hardcore menjadi sub budaya yang seringkali dihindari oleh banyak orang dengan berbagai persepsi negatif yang mengedepankan gaya dan tren berperilaku menyimpang. Lebih parahnya akibat adanya stereotip negatif tersebut pelaku musik Hardcore menjadi korban kekerasan karena dianggap meresahkan. Straight Edge adalah sebuah gaya hidup, filosofi, dan pergerakan anak muda pada lingkungan musik Hardcore yang menganut gaya hidup clean. Straight Edge bertentangan dengan bagaimana pengaruh kelompok memengaruhi individu. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan faktor–faktor yang membuat seseorang menyukai musik Hardcore, dampak musik Hardcore terhadap kehidupan seorang Straight Edge, respon pelaku Straight Edge dalam menanggapi stereotip negatif, serta faktor–faktor pembentuk gaya hidup Straight Edge. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui metode fenomenologi. Pada penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan teknik wawancara dengan tiga orang informan yang terbagi dalam tiga tipe yaitu musisi, fans, dan penggiat acara musik Hardcore yang Straight Edge. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan faktor–faktor yang menjadi daya tarik musik Hardcore yaitu: (1) beat yang cenderung up–beat, (2) memberikan emosi “semangat”, (3) tema lirik musik Hardcore yang cenderung mengkritisi keadaan sosial. Sedangkan respon pelaku Straight Edge terhadap stereotip musik Hardcore yaitu ada yang cuek/acuh serta ada yang menoleransi. Faktor yang memengaruhi individu menjadi Straight Edge dalam lingkungan musik Hardcore adalah lingkungan terdekat yang positif, musiknya, iman, prinsip, kesehatan, dan konsekuensi.
