Abstract

An objective view the reconstructed media creates stereotypes veiled women with a negative stigma as the wife of a terrorist, exclusive, bigoted and even hypocritical. This study aims to describe verbal and nonverbal communication veiled women. Good communications made with other veiled women, with their family (husband and children) as well as with the general public. This study utilized qualitative method with phenomenological perspective. In the tradition of phenomenology, data were collected both by observation (nonparticipant) and in-depth interviews (depth interview). This study is a field research study. The research was conducted in several communities of veiled women. They are veiled women communities in Sedayulawas Village (Brondrong sub-district, Lamongan), Blimbing village (Paciran sub-district, Lamongan), Tenggulun village (Solokuro sub-district, Lamongan), and Srowo village (Sidayu sub-district, Gresik). Result of this study shows that veiled women used some Arabic terms while communicating in their own community. They also bear certain labeling which embedded by the people around them. This becomes a part of their verbal communication which they establish with their own community. Whilst, their nonverbal communication shown in form of body language, physical appearance, paralanguage, colors, spatial orientation, personal distance and artifacts.

Abstract

This study describes the dimensions of self-disclosure in conversation topics husband and wife through taaruf in the first year of marriage. Taaruf is the choice for people who do not want dating. Taaruf is a brief introduction of men and women who intend to marry following the guidance of Islam. Dimensions of self disclosure includes breadth, depth, valence, frequency, and duration. The results of research showed that married couples through taaruf undertaken efforts to develop interpersonal relationships through the stages of contact, intimacy, involvement and openness in which intensifitas interaction begins after marriage. Process of coming together at the couple through the stages of initiating taaruf-bonding-experimenting-Integrating-intensifying. Self disclosure on topics of husband and wife talk show of the variability in each pair. This study provides a new discourse that enrich science communication research. Especially research related interpersonal relationships and interpersonal communication. As a research-laden communication aspects of psychology, the study also opens up opportunities for the emergence of research from other disciplines, because the phenomenon of marital communication via taaruf can be viewed from the sociology of science communication, social psychology and so forth.
