Abstract

AbstractThis research aimed to present the findings of English modals in modal verb phrase structures in educational essays of ‘Sherry Johnson’ and ‘Tamjid Mujtaba’, which to increase the learners’ awareness of modals when they hesitate in the foreign language, which is the very common in writing. This research used qualitative research to analyze the modal verb phrase in educational essays of ‘Sherry Johnson’ and ‘Tamjid Mujtaba’. This research has found that the most frequent modal verbs in these essays are can, may, will, should, would, and must. The researchers found 23 different modal verbs in ‘Sherry Johnson’ and ‘Tamjid Mujtaba’ academic essays documents that indicate actions, states and conditions associated with education. The most used modals were in ‘Tamjid Mujtaba’ essay, it produced 12 modals. These results correspond with the definition of these documents. The findings are proofing of how language expresses the characteristics of an academic text type in a professional and academic way domain.

Abstract

This study deals with Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) of reading skills in EFL learners of Tidar University. This study is to investigate the problems and to determine the strategies of reading that the learners use to help them according to their reading problems. This study seeks to answers two research questions: (1). What are/is the problems of reading comprehension at Tidar University? (2). What are/is the strategies that EFL learners use to help them in reading comprehension problem? This study adopted a descriptive qualitative approach that used a questionnaire to complete this research. The aims of this study are to know the factors of reading comprehension factors and to know EFL learners' strategies that they use to help their in reading comprehension in Tidar University.

Abstract

Oral Presentation is one of ways to develop the speaking ability. This study focuses on the impact of oral presentation toward speaking ability based on the student’s point of view in EFL classroom for higher education. The purpose of this study were to investigate the impact of oral presentation to the development of the students ability to speak English and know the student’s difficulties in doing oral presentation in EFL classroom for higher education. From the purpose of this study, the researcher formulates two research problems: (1) What are the impact of oral presentation to the student’s apeaking ability? And (2) What are the factors that make the student difficult to do oral presentation? In this study, the researcher used qualitative research method for collecting data. To obtain the qualitative data, the researcher gave questionnaires for 25 students in the English Department of Tidar University.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out whether ‘Buku Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/ MA/SMK/MAK’ textbook of the 11th grade at the first semester fulfilled syllabus points of the 2013 revised curricula. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research. The data would be gathered from document analysis of an English textbook entitled ‘Buku Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/ MA/SMK/MAK’ published by KEMENTERIAN PENDIDIKAN DAN KEBUDAYAAN REPUBLIK INDONESIA 2017 of 10th grade senior high school. The ‘Buku Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/ MA/SMK/MAK’ textbook had contented syllabus of basic competence and learning material. Each basic competence was delivered in certain exercises of four English skills. The learning materials were effectively comprised and support to develop the materials which understood about social function which made as text structures, cooperating tasks were presented and correlated the other rules of text structures, and language features were presented and developed based on proper and fit vocabulary, the pronunciation and intonation exercises are correlated grammar to support the materials of adverb, modals, connector, tenses, etc. It provided and developed suitable topics and multimedia using based on the syllabus guidance as well. On the other hand, this textbook had weakness about there were basic competence 3.6/4.6 and 3.8/4.8 which were not suitable and irregular. Each available basic competence was not deliver in certain exercises of four English skills some of them only have three skills for basic competence which was included social functions, text structures and language features, the skills for each basic competence are listening, reading, speaking, and writing, but in some basic competences they are only use three skills which is reading, speaking, and writing only.

Abstract

AbstractThe significant care and the globalization of English have been caused broad demand for good English-speaking skills in various realms. The aim of this research is getting to know what people think accuracy, fluency and complexity when they are speaking or writing in English. Many students think too much of grammatical-error and they need to remember all tenses so they can practice English. Students need motivation from their-selves before they learn English; moreover, English as foreign language, students will study English as they must pass their subject in school. In addition, the present paper aimed to know the people perception of accuracy, fluency and complexity in written and spoken English. The researchers use qualitative research method and open questions for questionnaire. The study data is collected from 10 students of English Education department in Tidar University. Therefore, 50% students chose fluency, 30% students chose accuracy, and 20% chose complexity. The result of this research, students chose fluency because by mastering fluency in speaking, students can correct them in grammatical structure by the time. As one respondent said that fluent in English is basic and it is better if we fluent then accurate by correcting their grammatical structure. In the end, the researchers knew that students prefer fluent then accurate so they can complex in English. Keywords: Learning English, accuracy, fluency, complexity

Abstract

Kehadiran komunitas lesbian, gay, biseksual, transgender, dan queer adalah persyaratan wajib. Meskipun komunitas LGBTQ + adalah sekelompok orang yang prihatin dengan keyakinan agama, Indonesia bahkan sekarang menganggap LGBTQ + sebagai pelanggaran dan dosa. Mereka yang tidak secara konsekuen menyetujui pernikahan sesama jenis. Menariknya, persepsi ini telah diperdebatkan karena, pada kenyataannya, orang lain mungkin sudah mulai berpikiran terbuka dan sepenuhnya menerima prevalensi LGBTQ + orang di komunitas LGBTQ +. Studi ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif untuk menyelidiki perspektif generasi muda Indonesia menuju komunitas LGBTQ + di Indonesia. Peneliti menggunakan kuesioner sebagai alat untuk pengumpulan data dengan sepuluh pertanyaan yang diperlukan untuk memenuhi perspektif pemuda Indonesia untuk menyelidiki sudut pandang mereka. Data penelitian yang dikumpulkan dari peserta Indonesia, dengan total adalah 83 pemuda Indonesia antara usia 15-26 di seluruh Indonesia. Karena isu penelitian ini cukup sensitif di Indonesia, pasti ada perspektif positif dan negatif yang juga terlihat pada hasil kuesioner. Singkatnya, tujuan studi akan lebih membantu pihak berwenang mengambil tindakan pencegahan untuk dimasukkan di masa depan. Juga, untuk menyelidiki para pemuda Indonesia dari latar belakang yang berbeda dari keyakinan dan perspektif terhadap komunitas LGBTQ +. Implikasi penelitian ini memberi tahu kaum muda subkultur LGBTQ + kepada orang tua dan guru Indonesia sebagai mereka yang bertanggung jawab untuk mendidik anak muda sehingga mereka tidak akan terpengaruh oleh fenomena sosial ini
