Abstract

Power supply is crucial equipment in coaxial induction coil launcher. Configuration of the driving circuit directly influences the efficiency of the coil launcher. This paper gives a detailed analysis of the properties of the driving circuit construction based on the capacitor source. Three topologies of the driving circuit are compared including oscillation, crowbar and half-wave circuits. It is proved that which circuit has the better efficiency depends on the detailed parameters of the experiment, especially the crowbar resistance. Crowbar resistor regulates not only efficiency of the system, but also temperature rise of the coil. Electromagnetic force (EMF) applied on the armature will be another problem which influences service condition of the driving circuits. Oscillation and crowbar circuits should be applied to both of the synchronous and asynchronous induction coil launchers, respectively. Half-wave circuit is seldom used in the experiment. Although efficiency of the half-wave circuit is very high, the speed of the armature is low. A simple independent half-wave circuit is proposed in this paper. In general, the comprehensive property of crowbar circuit is the most practical in the three typical circuits. Conclusions of the paper could provide guidelines for practice.

Abstract

Optimal design of large induction motor is a process that involves electrical and mechanical skills as well as thermal and fluid dynamic skills. For recent machine layouts, one cannot rely on standard analysis methods. In multiphysics simulations which are done by weak coupling finite-element method, rotation boundary values on interface between air gap and rotor cannot be applied directly for fluid-dynamical analysis. A novel multi-component fluid method is proposed to deal with the influence of rotor rotation upon the air convection. This paper investigates a 3-D multi-physics simulation used in simulation of temperature distribution in air-cooled induction motor. The temperature rise in motor is due to Joule’s losses in stator windings and the induced eddy current in squirrel cages, and heat dissipation by air convection and solid conduction. The Joule’s losses calculated by 3-D eddy-current field analysis are used as the input for the thermal field analysis, which deeply depends on accurate air fluid field analysis. Through the coupled-field calculation, we proposed a new ventilation structure of a 15-phase motor to improve the cooling performance.

Abstract

In the construction process of smart grid, an assessment on primary equipments intelligent transformation is an urgent content in the first batch of intelligent substation pilot project. Wide investigation of intelligent substation pilot projects was conducted seriously in several regional power grids in China. An mathematical model was established to assess the substation primary equipments intelligent transformation firstly; then, the Vague sets multi-objective decision theory was applied to the assessment model and the consistency inspection and weight solving method of Vague set theory was improved in this paper. Finally, a practical example was given to show the rationality and accuracy of the above improved method. The method can provide practical guidance to assess primary equipments intelligent transformation.

Abstract

The development of Science and Technology has spurred the development of distributed generation, as well as the application of new renewable energy sources. DG connected to the grid can alter the power flow on the grid, reduce voltage loss and grid capacity loss; and also enhance the incident and reliability of grid power supply. When the number of DG connected to the grid increases, capacity direction varies depending on the distribution and consumption at specific time. Consequently, capacity losses in the grid can be reduced. Besides, DG connected to the grid is closely linked to the matters of environmental pollution and degradation, economic growth and living standard. This paper will discuss the impacts of grid-distributed generation on economic and technical indicators, which mainly focus on the relationship between degree of penetration and location of DG connection to the grid, regarding voltage and capacity losses in the line. The proposed model is calculated and tested via a 56-bus radial distribution system in the DELPHI7 programming language. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i2.3796
