Abstract

The mechanical properties of the materials are important to be studied to get the usage information of the material. The NBR/EPDM (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber/Ethylene Propylene Diene Rubber) composite is widely used as seal, gasket, and hose because of their excellent properties. This research used compatibilizer in the blending process of NBR/EPDM. This research aimed to study the effect of some compatibilizer on the mechanical properties and compression set of the NBR/EPDM composite. The compatibilizers used in this research were methyl-methacrylate-butadiene-styrene (MBS), montmorillonite (MMT), and silica. The hardness, tensile strength, elongation at break, tear strength, and compression set of the composites were studied using hardness tester, tensile strength tester, and compression set tester. The research showed that montmorillonite as compatibilizer gave the best hardness, tensile strength, tear strength, elongation, and compression set. The aging increased the hardness and the compression set of NBR/EPDM. However, the aging decreased the tensile strength, tear strength, and elongation at break of NBR/EPDM. Montmorillonite was a suitable compatibilizer for improving the mechanical properties and compression set of NBR/EPDM composite

Abstract

Suhu dapat mempengaruhi karakteristik dan sifat suatu material.Penelitian ini mempelajari karakteristik dan kinetika dekomposisi termal dari komposit CR/NR dengan berbagai jenis bahan pengisi menggunakan metode termogravimetri.Carbon black (CB), kombinasi CB dan zeolite, kombinasi CB dan kaolin, serta kombinasi CB dan bentonit digunakan sebagai bahan pengisi. Komposit dibuat menggunakan two-roll mill dan dilakukan studi karakteristik dan kinetika dekomposisi termal dengan menggunakan alat termogravimetri analyser dengan kecepatan pemanasan 10⁰C/min. Dekomposisi termal pada komposit CR/NR terjadi secara tiga tahap, yaitu tahap penguapan zat mudah larut, tahap oksidasi, dan tahap dekomposisi CR/NR. Bentonit memberikan massa akhir dekomposisi tertinggi pada 600⁰C. Dari perhitungan dengan metode Coats-Redfern, diketahui bahwa CB membutuhkan energi aktivasi yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan kombinasi bahan pengisi kaolin dan bentonit.Bentonit dapat menjadi bahan pengisi yang sesuai untuk komposit CR/NR

Abstract

Komposit NBR/EPDM memiliki banyak manfaat, diantaranya sebagai sil, gasket.  Ketahanan termal dan ketahanan terhadap perendaman perlu dipelajari untuk mengetahui kondisi penggunaan dan penyimpanan yang tepat. Dalam penelitian ini, komposit NBR/EPDM dicampur dengan berbagai kompatibiliser untuk mendapatkan komposit yang homogen, yaitu metil-metakrilat-butadiene-stirene (MBS), montmorillonite (MMT), dan silika. Komposit NBR/EPDM dibuat menggunakan two-roll mill dan divulkanisasi mengggunakan hydraulic press. Pengujian ketahanan termal  dilakukan dengan menggunakan termogravimetry analyzer dan pengujian ketahanan terhadap perendaman dilakukan dengan metode perendaman dalam berbagai pelarut (IRM 903, toluene, n-heksana). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh kompatibiliser terhadap ketahanan termal dan perendaman dari komposit NBR/EPDM. Dari penelitian diketahui bahwa kompatibiliser, khususnya MBS, dapat meningkatkan ketahanan termal hingga 2.5% dan ketahanan terhadap perendaman komposit NBR/EPDM hingga 2%

Abstract

Composite is a material made from two or more materials. Composite has better properties than a single material. Additive or compatibilizer is usually needed to make a homogeneous composite. This research used Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) and Ethylene Butadiene Monomer Rubber (EPDM) as the primary matrix with Bromobutyl Rubber (BIIR) as the compatibilizer. The blending of composite rubber was done using the two-roll mill. This research studied the effect of various accelerators (DPG, MBT, CBS, TMTD, and ZDEC) in NBR/EPDM/BIIR composite. The mechanical and swelling properties of the composite were studied using tensile strength tester and swelling test. The CBS gives the highest tensile, elongation at break, and tear strength. CBS gives the lowest swelling percentage. CBS is the proper accelerator for improving the mechanical and swelling properties of the NBR/EPDM/BIIR composite.

Abstract

Filler is one of the most important additives in making rubber goods. Filler can improve the properties of rubber goods. This study aims to determine the effect of filler substitution on the chloroprene/natural rubber (CR/NR) composite. The filler used in this study are carbon black (CB) N330, combination of zeolite and CB (1:1), combination of kaolinite and CB (1:1), and combination of bentonite and CB (1:1). The composites were done by a two-roll mill and hydraulic press. The mechanical properties and the morphology of CR/NR composite were studied using tensile strength tester and scanning electron microscope. The elemental composition of the composite was studied by X-ray fluorescence. From the study, it is known that the carbon black as a single filler gives the highest tensile strength and tear strength. The zeolite as substitute filler gives the highest tensile strength and elongation. The bentonite as substitute filler gives the lowest tensile strength and tear strength. All of the composites show fine dispersion in SEM micrograph. Zeolite as substitute filler is a potential alternative filler for CR/NR composite

Abstract

The effect of montmorillonite on chloroprene (CR)/ natural rubber (NR) blend was studied in this research. Montmorillonite was used as a compatibilizer with the various amounts (0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10 phr). The compounds were done by the two-roll mill and hydraulic press. The cure characteristics, mechanical properties, morphology, and thermal characteristics had been investigated by rheometer, tensile strength tester, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The montmorillonite resulted in longer scorch time and lower activation energy. Analysis of the blends by SEM and DSC showed that montmorillonite resulted in a compatible blend. The 2.5 phr montmorillonite gave the best curing characteristics with the lowest optimum time, the highest constant rate, and the lowest activation energy. It also gave the best tensile strength, elongation, and tear strength. The 2.5 phr montmorillonite was the proper compatibilizer for CR/NR blend
