Abstract

This article discusses the role of parents especially the mother in caring and guiding their children to learn and study English at home. English as a second language acquisition in Indonesia made this language important to be learned by children. The earlier the children study English, the better English they have. This study is a qualitative research using literature review method. The collection data used is literature review. The data are taken from the references deal with the research focus such as journals, articles, and books. This articles found that many activities can be occured by the smart parents in learning English at home with their children such as reading an English book stories, watching English movies, singing an English children song, coloring English vocabulary pictures, playing English vocabulary games, and playing a role play. The parents are also must prepare the English book stories, English children movies, English children songs, coloring English vocabulary pictures, and English vocabulary dictionary.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas tentang pendidikan bahasa Inggris untuk anak usia dini. Kemampuan seseorang untuk menggunakan bahasa Inggris diperlukan seiring dengan kemajuan suatu negara. Itulah alasan mengapa bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa Internasional mulai diperkenalkan sesegera mungkin kepada para siswa di Indonesia saat ini. Artikel ini menggunakan studi pustaka yang teknik pengumpulan datanya dilakukan melalui review buku teks, review literatur, catatan, dan laporan yang terkait dengan pendidikan bahasa Inggris untuk anak usia dini. Pendidikan bahasa Inggris akan ideal jika dimulai sejak usia dini, terutama sebelum anak-anak berusia 12 tahun. Anak usia dini adalah anak pada rentang sekitar 2 - 7 tahun. Di usia itu adalah periode emas dalam pengembangan keterampilan bahasa anak-anak. Pada periode ini, mereka dapat mempelajari bahasa apa pun seperti pembicara asli dan periode ini harus digunakan sebaik mungkin. Namun, anak-anak pada usia dini masih berada pada kondisi perkembangan kognitif praoperasional yang memiliki sifat egosentris yang tinggi, belum memahami hal-hal abstrak, hanya memahami simbol-simbol dan masih berpikir pra-logis (belum logis). Oleh karena itu, bahasa Inggris untuk anak-anak membutuhkan metode yang tepat dan efektif untuk digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran. Ada beberapa metode dan teknik yang tepat untuk mengajar bahasa Inggris untuk anak usia dini seperti dalam konteks komunikatif. Kontek tersebut termasuk konteks situasi sosial, budaya, permainan, nyanyian dan musik, mendongeng, pengalaman yang artistik, kerajinan tangan dan aktifitas-aktifitas yang memprioritaskan gerakan fisik. Di antara metode dan teknik yang disebutkan, pendekatan dengan lagu (nyanyian dan music) dan gerak adalah metode yang sangat tepat dan sukses dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris untuk anak usia dini. This article discusses about English education for early childhood. One's ability to use English is needed along with the progress of a country. That is the reason why English as an International language began introduced as soon as possible to the students in Indonesia nowadays. This article uses a literature study which the data collection technique done by a review study of textbooks, literatures, notes, and reports which related to English education for young learners. English education will be ideal if it starts from an early age, especially before the children turn into 12 years old. Early childhood is the child on the range about 2 - 7 years. In that age is a golden period in the development of children's language skills. In this period, they are able to learn any languages like the original speakers and this period should be used as well as possible. However, children at an early age are still on the preoperational cognitive development condition that has high egocentricity, have not understood the abstract things yet, just understand on the symbols and still pre-logical minded. Therefore, English for children requires a proper and effective methods in teaching process. There are several appropriate methods and techniques for teaching English for early childhood such as in the communicative context. They are including the context of social situations, culture, games, singing and music, storytelling, artistic experiences, handicrafts and prioritizing physical movement. Between methods and techniques mentioned, the approach with song and motion is a very appropriate and successful method in English education for early childhood. Abstract

This study aims to describe the method of da'wah learning using the three-language speeches conducted by the Mathla'ul Anwar Islamic Boarding School in Pontianak as a flagship program to equip students with the ability to speak in three languages, namely Indonesian, Arabic and English. The results of the study showed that the method of da'wah learning using three language speeches was applied in muhadharah activities which were held every week on Saturday night. In this Muhadharah activity, the santri practice to give speeches in three languages. The santri were equipped with the ability to make speech texts, translated into Arabic and English and practiced speech in front of all the students at the Mathla'ul Anwar Islamic Boarding School in Pontianak City. (Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan metode pembelajaran dakwah menggunakan pidato tiga bahasa yang dilaksanakan oleh Pondok Pesantren Mathla’ul Anwar Kota Pontianak sebagai program unggulan untuk membekali para santrinya kemampuan untuk berpidato dalam tiga bahasa yaitu bahasa Indonesia, Arab dan Inggris. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode pembelajaran dakwah menggunakan pidato tiga bahasa diaplikasikan dalam kegiatan muhadharah yang dilaksanakan setiap minggu tepatnya hari Sabtu malam. Dalam kegiatan muhadharah ini, para santri berlatih untuk berpidato dalam tiga bahasa. Para santri dibekali kemampuan untuk membuat teks pidato, menterjemahkan kedalam bahasa Arab dan Inggris serta berlatih pidato didepan seluruh para santri di Pondok Pesantren Mathla’ul Anwar Kota Pontianak).
