Abstract

The train station is a public function that can be easily accessed by various characters of ability (equitable space), responsive, and democratic by all users (Octaviana, 2019). Equitable space here refers to the equality of persons with disabilities in accessing space. There are 3 types of disabilities: mental disabilities, physical disabilities, and multiple disabilities. People with physical disabilities have limited movement according to their respective types of limitations. A friendly space for the physically disabled is created by applying the concept of universal design. The purpose of this study was to examine and find out how to design facilities for the needs of the physically disabled in accessing the accessibility provided by Bandung Pintu Utara Station. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach based on the diversity and ways of movement of persons with physical disabilities at the North Gate Bandung City Station. The data collection method was obtained through observation of the North Gate Bandung City Station facility. This research is expected to be input for designers and contribute knowledge about accessibility for physically disabled people.

Abstract

Sidewalks are public facilities and must be accessible to all users. This study departs from the lack of quality of public open space in Bandung and the absence of a sidewalk model that is responsive to people with low vision. The purpose of this research is to find out the design principles and to make responsive pavement design models of people with low vision. Data was collected by interviewing and observing the behavior and travel of people with low vision on some familiar and unfamiliar sidewalks in the city of Bandung. Data analysis was carried out from recorded interviews to find out the obstacles faced by people with low vision when exploring sidewalk space. This research produces criteria and models of pavement design that are responsive to persons with a low vision based on their limitations. The results of the study are expected to contribute to the concept of pavement design so that people with low vision can have equal and independent rights in accessing public space[Trotoar adalah fasilitas publik dan harus aksesibel bagi semua penggunanya.
