Abstract

Chitosan as a material of biological origin has recently been used for recovery of metal ions. This research aims to synthesize kitosan resin resulted by the reaction of kitosan with etilendamin. In the present work chitosan was cross-linked with glutardialdehyde and subsequently treated with epichlorohydrine and ethylene diamine. The resins CR-amine was found to contain 22.7% water content,  and were insoluble in organic solvents as well as in mineral and organic acids. The concentration values of the active sites on the resins are reported. The higher concentration of active sites of CR-amine 6.01 mmol/g indicates that the “en” moieties are covalently bonded to the cross-linked resin. Several chemical modification methods were tried in increasing the uptake capacity of cross-linked chitosan bead. Among them, aminated chitosan beads formed through the chemical reaction using ethylenediamine showed the highest uptake capacity for gold ions. Uptake capacity of aminated chitosan beads was increased to about 0.8 mmol Au3+ g-1 dry mass compared to that before modification. The increase of amine groups was confirmed by IR spectrum and measurement of amine concentration and surface condition on aminated chitosan bead was also confirmed by  SEM.

Abstract

The static of students in making learning notes, especially on rote material is one of the triggers for the low learning outcomes of students. The objectives of the study were to: (1) analyze the feasibility of HGNT on colloidal material, (2) describe the responses of teachers and students to HGNT on colloidal material. The research method used is Research and Development with a 4-D model. Includes four stages, namely: (1) define (2) design; (3) develop and; (4) disseminate. But in the development of HGNT, it is only carried out until the third stage. The research was conducted at MAN 3 Banda Aceh with research subjects 27 students of class XII MIA 1 and chemistry teachers who are members of the MGMP chemistry forum. The developed handout has a very decent assessment criteria with a percentage of 90%. The results of the teacher's responses are in the very good category with a percentage of 82.5% and student responses of 73% which are in the good and practical category.

Abstract

The antioxidant activity test of young and ripe Srikaya fruit extract (Annona Squamosa L.) had been carried out by using the FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power) method. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of young and ripe srikaya fruit extract using the FRAP method by using qualitative and quantitative method. The research method used was FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power) which was based on a reduction reaction in an acid state towards a yellow Fe3+ (Potassium hexacyanoferat(III)) complex compound to become a bluish-green Fe2+ complex compound due to electron donors from antioxidant compounds. The result of the qualitative analysis of the antioxidant activity of young and ripe srikaya fruit extract was a change in color in the sample extracts of young and ripe Srikaya fruit due to the reduction reaction in an acid state towards the yellow-colored Fe3+ (Potassium hexacyanoferat(III)) complex compound to become a bluish-green Fe2+ complex compound. due to electron donor of antioxidant compounds. Quantitatively, the average antioxidant activity of samples of young and ripe srikaya fruit extract was respectively 7,448 mgAAE/g extract and 9,351 mgAAE/g extract. The result indicated that the antioxidant activity of ripe srikaya fruit was greater than that of young fruit. Based on the results of the analysis parameter testing the t-test, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the antioxidant activity of the young and ripe srikaya fruit extract (Annona squamosa L.). Abstract

The outbreak of the Covid-19 virus (Corona virus disease-19) in Indonesia, precisely in early March 2020, the government issued a lockdown policy in several areas, self-isolation, physical distancing, and distance learning in education units. The face-to-face lecture system in the classroom is replaced with online or online learning, so that practicum activities are also carried out online. Undergoing virtual practicum, educators are required to be creative and innovative in choosing practicum media, this is needed to facilitate and motivate students in independent learning. One of the interactive learning media that can support online practicum is microsoft excel-based practicum media. This study aims to determine the feasibility of the media and student responses to the virtual practicum media analysis of ferrous metal spectrophotometrically based on microsoft excel. This study uses the research and development (RD) method with the ADDIE model. The research was conducted at the Department of Chemistry Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Syiah Kuala University (FKIP USK). The sample was selected by random sampling, obtained 23 students who took the Chemistry Practicum of Instrument Analysis and Separation courses. The research instrument used a media validation sheet, a student response questionnaire, and a system usability scale (SUS) questionnaire. Data analysis used the percentage formula. The results of the validation of the feasibility of the virtual practicum media analysis of ferrous metal spectrophotometry UV-Vis based on microsoft excel by experts obtained a percentage of 82% with a very feasible category. Students gave positive responses to the virtual practicum media for spectrophotometric analysis of ferrous metal based on microsoft excel, and the SUS questionnaire obtained a sufficient category
