Abstract

CHARACTERISTICS AND IMPACTS OF TROPICAL CYCLONES GROWING AROUND INDONESIAN TERRITORY. Tropical cyclone is a cyclonic originates from tropical oceans and driven principally by heat transfer from the ocean. Tropical cyclone is an atmospheric phenomenon characterized by the emergence of low air pressure that triggers the occurrence of strong winds due to the process of heat transfer from the equator to the latitude. This phenomenon can not be prevented, so that it has great potential to impact on the damage in the area it through. Tropical cyclones can be characterized through their life cycle, scale of power and how it impacts in the area it through. The Cempaka and Dahlia tropical cyclone occuring in 2017 greatly influenced territory of Indonesia. The effect of the cyclone causes extreme weather in Indonesia, especially in areas close to where cyclones are formed.

Abstract

HYDRODYNAMICS EFFECT TO THE DISTRIBUTION OF THERMAL WASTE IN THE OCEAN. The ocean is a thermal waste disposal site derived from thermal power plants. The ecosystems and marine biota could be disrupted even massive damaged if this waste was disposed into the ocean without proper processing. All activities in the ocean need a well understanding of hydrodynamics to avoid or minimize any negative effects that may occur. It needs dispersion modeling of heat water prior to the construction of the power plant in order to reduce the impact of environmental damage.

Abstract

SOUTH JAVA CURRENT. Indian Ocean is influenced by the monsoon cycle. Monsoon cycle that occurs in the Indian Ocean influences the current patterns. Since a very strong westerlies occurs in The Tropical Convergence Zone (TCZ) at the equator, wyrtki jet is formed in the 40° - 80° W Indian Ocean on a transitional season. Its branchs are possibly formed when the wyrtki jet is in the equatorial west coast of Sumatra to the north and south along the western coast of Sumatra which eventually creates South Java Current (SJC). SJC flows southeastward during December–April and northwestward during June–October, when it is associated with coastal upwelling. SJC develop upwelling on a seasonal basis.
