Abstract

This article discusses some topics about reading comprehension such as the meaning of reading, levels of comprehension, reading process, and micro-skills for reading comprehension. Reading is the activity of perceiving a written text in order to understand its meaning. The understanding of meaning resulted from reading is called reading comprehension, involving three levels: literal, interpretive, and applied. Such meaning can be achieved by top-down, bottom-up, and interactive processing. Besides, the reader should master some micro-skills for reading comprehension, ranging from recognizing a core of words untul developing and using a battery of reading strategis. Key words: reading, levels of comprehension, reading process, and micro-skills

Abstract

The article presents in this research findings is intended to determine the influence of teaching approach and semantic mastery on the increase of students'  achievement of poetry comprehension of the students of the Education of  Language and Literature program of the Language and Art Major of the Manado State University (UNIMA). The teaching approach as an independent variable is divided into three levels: Gestalt, Structural, and Semiotic. The semantic mastery as an attribute variable is divided into high semantic mastery and low semantic mastery. The research method employed in this study was quasi-experiment with before-after design through the factorial of 3 x 2 of the two-way analysis of ariance technique (ANAVA). The sample of this research was the students who were studying the poem appreciation subject. Based on the result of inferential analysis of the data, several conclusions may be drawn. First, there is a difference in the increase of achievements of poetry comprehension of the groups of students who are taught using  Gestalt approach, structural approach, and semiotic approach (p 0.05).  Among the three groups, the Gestalt group shows the highest increase. Second, the group of students with high semantic mastery shows a higher increase of achievement in poetry comprehension than those with low semantic mastery (p 0.05).   Third, there is an interaction between teaching approach and semantic mastery in terms of the increase of the students' achievement (p 0.05).

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the meaning of the elements of nationalism in the poem "Diponegoro" by Chairil Anwar and to reveal the relationship between the poetry of "Diponegoro" with the history of Diponegoro War (Java War) in 1825 – 1830. The "Diponegoro" poem is one of the phenomenal works that, if the contents are reviewed, alive and exist in a fighting spirit, the spirit of nationalism. In this postmodern era, the poetry of ‘Prince Diponegoro’ by Chairil Anwar is still exist as poem which fights for its country. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with content analysis techniques. Conclusion: 1. Poetry "DIPONEGORO" is the poem with struggling spirit. In this case, it was the fight of Diponegoro against the Netherlands’ colonialism. His nationalism, his love and obedience, his loyalty for his country, had led Diponegoro onto resistance because he wanted to liberate his people, from the domination and the grip of foreign power, the Netherlands. 2. The poem of “Diponegoro” cannot be separated from the history of the past, the resistance of the people of Java against the Netherlands’ colonialism.

Abstract

Ba’do Katupat celebration is a tradition of Jawa Tondano (Jaton) village hold annually. It has a deep meaning to strengthen the relationship, forgive each other, as well as be grateful  for the success of fasting for the whole month. No wonder the celebration is always crowded with thousands of people from different areas, ages and beliefs, and carried out for the whole day. Ba’do Ketupat is an inherited tradition from Diponegoro, Kiai Mojo, and his followers. This Javanese tradition heritage can be found in Tondano, Minahasa as a ceremonial event held annually by people in Jaton village one week after Eid  Ba’do Ketupat contains cultural values   that include local and cultural values, as the icon and identity of  Jaton in Minahasa, as well as the acculturation resulting in solidarity and tolerance. This culture unites the minority of Jaton people with the majority of Minahasa people. The religious ritual performed by Jaton people and other Muslim accomplishes religious obligations in order to increase devotion towards Allah SWT and not to create difference. Perayaan Ba’do Katupat merupakan tradisi kampung Jawa Tondano yang dilaksanakan setiap tahun. Acara ini memiliki makna yang mendalam yaitu untuk memperkokoh tali silaturahim, bermaaf-maafan, sekaligus ucapan syukur atas keberhasilan menjalankan ibadah puasa sebulan lamanya. Tak heran perayaan tersebut selalu dipadati ribuan masyarakat dari berbagai daerah, usia dan keyakinan dan berlangsung sejak pagi hingga malam hari. Ba’do Katupat merupakan tradisi yang diwariskan Diponegoro, Kiai Mojo dan pengikut - pengikutnya. Tradisi ini adalah warisan tradisi Jawa yang ada di Tondano Minahasa dan menjadi acara seremonial yang setiap tahun diselenggarakan warga di Kampung Jaton setelah lewat satu minggu lebaran. Ba’do Katupat mengandung nilai-nilai budaya yang mencakup kearifan lokal dan kearifan budaya Jaton, sebagai ikon dan identitas warga Jaton di Minahasa, serta sebagai akulturasi budaya sehingga terjadi solidaritas dan toleransi. Budaya tersebut mempersatukan penduduk minoritas Jaton dengan penduduk mayoritas Minahasa. Ritual keagamaan yang dilakukan oleh orang Jaton maupun Muslim yang lain merupakan pelaksanaan kewajiban agama dalam upaya meningkatkan ketakwaan kepada Allah SWT dan bukan menciptakan perbedaan.

Abstract

At Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs), literature is a part of Indonesian Letters and Language class. Literature can refine manners, enrich aesthetic experience, and improve the knowledge of students. Literature teaching increases their ability in understanding, enjoying, loving, and appreciating literary work, and also to help their development of psychological aspects towards shaping their character as a whole. Regarding reading interest, students were helped in understanding and comprehending sufi short story when they mastered the adequate vocabulary. The sufi short story as a work of literature is rich of life values, either local or spiritual ones. Sufi value  belongs to spiritual value  assessed to develop a person’s spiritual state. This study used the survey method with correlation technique. The respondents were tested on vocabulary mastery, given quiz for reading interest, and also taken essay test for the ability to comprehend sufi short story. It was done in MTs Kampung Jawa, Tondano, Minahasa.  Based on the analysis of the hypothesis test, all of the alternative hypothesizes (H1) given in this research were accepted. This means that the ability to comprehend sufi short story (Y) can be improved by developing the mastery of vocabulary (X1) and reading interest (X2). Di Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs), sastra merupakan bagian dari pelajaran Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia. Sastra dapat memperhalus budi pekerti, memperkaya pengalaman estetik, dan meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa. Pengajaran sastra bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami, menikmati, mencintai, dan menghargai karya sastra, serta membantu perkembangan aspekaspek kejiwaan anak menuju terbentuknya kebulatan pribadinya. Sehubungan dengan minat baca, siswa sangat terbantu dalam memahami dan meresepsi cerpen sufistik ketika mereka menguasai kosakata yang memadai. Cerpen sufistik sebagai karya sastra, kaya akan nilai-nilai kehidupan, baik itu nilai budaya maupun nilai spiritual. Nilai sufistik termasuk dalam nilai spiritual yang apabila dikaji akan membantu mengembangkan spiritual seseorang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei dengan teknik korelasi. Responden diuji dengan tes penguasaan kosakata, kuis untuk minat baca, dan tes esai untuk kemampuan meresepsi cerpen sufistik. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di MTs Kampung Jawa Tondano, Minahasa. Berdasarkan analisis pengujian hipotesis, dapat disimpulkan bahwa semua hipotesis alternatif (H1) yang diajukan pada penelitian ini diterima. Hal ini berarti bahwa kemampuan meresepsi cerpen sufistik (Y) dapat meningkat dengan meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata (X1) dan minat baca (X2).

Abstract

Many teenagers say that love can be blind and that love can be carried out by men and women of different religions because of the wrong understanding which states that it is just a momentary pleasure and only satisfies a man's lust without following the current rules or norms of decency. The aim of the current research is to prioritize Soteriology as a spiritual provision for teenagers to face changes in their attitudes and face the wider social circle of all teenagers who are entering the transition period from childhood to adulthood, which includes all growth and development in relationships because of this the church and family are present. to teach the truth about the realities of life. Qualitative literature study methods are used to obtain accurate data related to this scientific work, the sources are the Bible, books and other articles related to the title discussed. The research results show the doctrine of soteriology and the role of the church as a teaching "agent" in teaching the Word of God because Soterology is the certainty of salvation in the Lord Jesus and is the basis for Christian teenagers to face changes in growth and development including dating up to marriage and refusing to date up to interfaith marriages . The conclusion of this research states that the church and family play a full role in being responsible for the future of teenagers so that they do not choose the wrong boyfriend or girlfriend as their lifelong companion and the church and family advise against choosing a boyfriend who has a different belief, let alone until marriage.AbstrakBanyak kalangan remaja mengatakan cinta itu bisa buta dikarenakan adanya pemahaman yang keliru yang menyebutkan bahwa hanya sekedar nikmat sesaat dan hanya memuaskan hawa nafsu seorang laki-laki tanpa mengikuti aturan atau norma kesusilaan yang berlaku saat ini. Tujuan riset saat ini mengutamakan Soteriologi sebagai pembekalan secara rohani kepada remaja untuk menghadapi perubahan sikapnya dan menghadapi pergaulan yang semakin luas kepada semua remaja yang memasuki masa peralihan dari masa anak ke masa dewasa, yang meliputi semua pertumbuhan dan perkembangan dalam pergaulan karena itu gereja dan keluarga hadir untuk mengajarkan tentang kebenaran atas kenyataan hidup. Metode kualitatif studi pustaka digunakan untuk memperoleh data yang akurat berhubungan dengan karya ilmiah ini, sumbernya dari Alkitab, buku-buku dan artikel artikel lainnya yang sehubungan dengan judul yang dibahas. Hasil riset menunjukkan doktrin soteriologi dan peran gereja sebagai “agen” pengajar dalam mengajarkan Firman Tuhan sebab Soterologi sebagai kepastian keselamatan dalam Tuhan Yesus dan menjadi dasar bagi anak remaja Kristen menghadapi perubahan pertumbuhan dan perkembangan termasuk berpacaran sampai pada pernikahan. Simpulan riset ini menyatakan Gereja dan keluarga berperan penuh atas tanggung jawab masa depan para remaja agar tidak salah memilih pacar sebagai pendamping hidupya seumur hidup dan pihak gereja dan keluarga menyarankan agar tidak memilih pacar yang berbeda keyakinan apalagi sampai pernikahan.
