Abstract

Government policy by giving professional subsidy for teachers significantly increases number of scholars who would choose their profession as teachers. However in Indonesia, the number of certified teachers is not equally followed by qualities of education. Presence of professional subsidy for teachers becomes not related to the increase of teachers performance. This irony is firmed in this research by case study in State Islamic Senior High School 2 Tangerang. Relation between presence of subsidy and teachers performance is confirmed to be weak. More influences to increase of teachers performance are found in competition. Keywords: Certification, Professional Subsidy, Motivation Abstrak Kebijakan pemerintah dengan memberikan tunjangan profesi kepada para guru secara signifikan menaikkan jumlah sarjana yang ingin berprofesi menjadi guru. Namun demikian, banyaknya guru tersertifikasi belum berbanding lurus dengan peningkatan mutu pendidikan di Indonesia. Adanya tunjangan profesi guru menjadi sesuatu yang tidak berkaitan dengan kinerja guru yang makin membaik. Ironi ini dipertegas dalam penelitian ini dengan mengambil studi kasus di MAN 2 Tangerang. Hubungan antara keberadaan tunjangan dengan kinerja guru dinyatakan lemah. Justru variable kompetensi lebih besar pengaruhnya terhadap peningkatan kinerja guru tersebut.
