Abstract

Tax is an obligation that must be paid by the company, the greater the income the company the greater the tax due. Management expects the tax payment detail to allow management to do the engineering to minimize the income tax burden. This study aims to examine the effects of changes in income tax rates that Law. 36 of 2008 on Income Tax on discretionary accrual due to a decrease in income tax rates between 2009 and the Agency for the year 2010 is the year 2009 by 28% and in 2010 dropped to 25%. In addition, this study also aims to determine the impact of tax and non tax incentives as well as the percentage of shares traded on the Stock Exchange of earnings management behavior.  Sample of this study is manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, which has published its financial statements from 2009-2010. Methods of analysis in this study using multiple regression analysis to determine the effect of independent variables earnings pressure, debt level, earnings bath, firm size, managerial ownership and the percentage of shares) against the dependent variable (discretionary accruals) and using independent sample t-test for the different test equipment. independent sample t-test was used to examine differences in the level of discretionary accruals between 2009 and 2010 after a decline in income tax rates. The results showed that before and after the reduction in tax rates, the management was not convicted of discretionary accruals to make savings income. This suggests that management in Indonesia did not take action to make opportunistic earnings management in order to decrease the tax rate Agency 2010. From the regression results of tax incentives and the percentage of shares traded on the Stock Exchange a significant effect on discretionary accruals, non-tax incentives only to have a significant earnings pressure on discretionary accruals, while the level of debt, earnings bath, firm size and managerial ownership has no significant effect on discretionary accruals. Keywords :Changes in tax rates, and discretionary accruals.

Abstract

Purpose - BMT is established as an Islamic micro-finance which gives the loans to the middle-low society. A good financial performance describes a good BMT condition to distribute their own loans. This research is a case study of BMT Binama Semarang City during 2009-2013.Method - The kind of data used are secondary data, monthly financial reports for balance statement, profit and loss, and collectability. The instrument of financial performance was measured based on stable, stable–enough, less-stable, and unstable quality using the variables of capitalizing structure, productive asset quality, liquidity, cost efficiency, capitalizing efficiency, economic rentability, and self-capital rentability. The data were analyzed by using multiple linear regression analyses.Result - The research found that financial performance of BMT in 5 years was stable-enough, caused by losing condition on 2010. The result of multiple linear regression showed that there were only two independent variables which had significant affect, they are: cost efficiency and economic rentability. Economic rentability gives more significant role in financial performance of BMT.Implication - The results showed that the financial performance of BMT Binama Semarang City was quite healthy. This quite healthy condition can be raised to be healthy through efforts to focus improvements on variables that show low scoring, namely cost efficiency and economic profitability.Originality - This study focuses on the financial performance of BMT Binama Semarang City.

Abstract

Purpose - This study aims to analyze the differences in compliance and implementation of paying zakat and taxes with zakat regulatory antecedents such as tax deduction.Method - 129 respondents from academicians and managers in Indonesia and Malaysia were taken by convenience sampling method and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test and linear regression.Result - The result shows that there are differences in zakat payment compliance between Indonesia and Malaysia. The implementation of zakat as tax deduction regulation has a significant effect on zakat and tax compliance behavior in both countries. Meanwhile, zakat as a tax deduction regulation executed in Malaysia makes tax compliance behavior higher than in Indonesia.Implication - Socialization from both the tax officials and zakat officials that zakat can be used to reduce taxable income is needed. It is suggested to apply zakat as a tax deduction for Indonesia as well as Malaysia.Originality - This research contributes to the Indonesian government in exploring the potential of Indonesian Muslims in paying zakat and taxes.
