Abstract

This article discusses the Kuttab as the Institute of Islamic Education in the classical period, from the time of the Prophet to the city of Baghdad destroyed by Hulago Khan (650 AD-1250 AD). This research method uses library research methods by studying various reference sources to obtain complete and reliable data. The results of this study state that Kuttab is the first basic educational institution in the Islamic world. The Kuttab place of education began in the homes of a teacher, then moved to the mosque yard and built a separate building. The subject matter at Kuttab was originally a lesson in reading and writing using Arabic which means good, then coupled with lessons in reading and memorizing the Koran and understanding the principles of teaching Islam.Keywords: Kuttab, Institution, Classical Period.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) determine the leadership strategy of the madrasah principal in optimizing the professionalism of Islamic Religious Education teachers at MTs Ar-Ridha Medan, (2) analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of the program carried out by the madrasah principal in improving the professionalism of Islamic Religious Education teachers, and (3) identify the obstacles faced by the madrasah principal in these efforts. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study research type. The research subjects included the madrasah principal, Islamic Religious Education teachers, vice-principals, and students at MTs Ar-Ridha Medan. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that: (1) the leadership strategy of the madrasah principal is instructional, demonstrated through teacher coaching, academic supervision, providing motivation, and implementing planned programs; (2) the implementation of the program carried out is classified as effective, marked by increased teacher discipline, the quality of learning administration, and innovation in teaching methods; and (3) the obstacles faced include low awareness and commitment of some teachers, changes in the curriculum and education policies, and limited funds in supporting teacher professional development.
