Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Garbage collector is a group of workers with a high risk of developing helminthic infection. This is because the profession mostly related with garbage is susceptible to higher risk of exposure to worm egg. Health promotion for the use of self-protective equipments and personal hygiene is one of the ways of developing awareness among the garbage collectors to behave and act based on their knowledge. This would eventually reduce the incidence of helminthic. Objectives: To find out the effect of health promotion for the use of Self-Protective Equipment and personal hygiene in improving knowledge, attitude, and garbage collecting practice and to get a description on the  helminthic infection. Methods: A quasi experiment study was conducted with Pretest and Posttest Group Design. Samples of the study were garbage collectors, who were selected with purposive sampling technique. The samples were divided into two groups: treatment group (25 respondents) and control group (25 respondents). Data were collected using questionnaires for knowledge, attitude, practice, and fecal samples. The data were analyzed using statistical analyses, namely, paired t-test and independent t-test with a significance level of p=0,05.Results: Knowledge who received health promotion (treatment group), on the helminthic infection was better than those in the control group, who did not receive health promotion. No significant difference was found for attitude and personal hygiene practice between the treatment group and the control group. A decrease of helminthic infection was found after the health promotion in both the treatment group and the control group. Conclusion: Health promotion can enhance the garbage collectors’ knowledge on the prevention and reduce the incidence of helminthic infections. Keywords: Health promotion, garbage collectors, helminthic infection

Abstract

Background : Food poisoning or foodborne disease is still a serious concern in Indonesia. The use of harmful synthetic chemical preservatives are still widely found in society. Therefore, it would require efforts to develop safe natural preservatives― for instance, from Pandan leaves (Pandanus amayllifolius Roxb) which are often used as a natural food coloring and flavor concentrates, and has also widely known to have anti-bacterial activities. Objective : This study aims to determine the potential of pandan leaves extract (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb) in lowering the total plate count and the number of mold on traditional food. Methods : After making the water of pandan leaves extract, a phytochemical test was done to determine bioactive compounds, such as tannin, alkaloids, flavonoids, and polyphenols which has anti-microbial properties. In order to determine its food preservatives capabilities, Total Plate Count and Number of Mold was used on a traditional food called Putu Ayu. Results : Pandan leaves extract contain bioactive compound like tannin, alkaloids, flavonoids, and polyphenols. There were no colonization found in Putu Ayu that was added 15% pandan leaves extract concentration in 101 dilution. The result of Number of Mold Count of Putu Ayu that contain 15% pandan leaves extract concentration showed no mold growth in 104 dilution but failed to provide good fragarance and flavor in food products. Conclusion : Pandan leaves extract in the concentration of 15% were able to decrease Total Plate Count and Number of Mold in traditional food.

Abstract

There are 3 elements to the nutritional problems of Indonesian adolescents, namely malnutrition, overweight, and micronutrient deficiencies with anemia. Anemia has an impact on irregular heartbeats that affect blood pressure (systolic and diastolic). Deficiency and excess nutrition is a risk factor for anemia. Anemia in young girls can continue when they become mothers. During pregnancy, they are also more at risk of experiencing postpartum hemorrhage, giving birth to babies with low birth weight, babies born prematurely, or stillbirth. In addition, their children are more likely to be stunted. This type of research is Analytical Observational with a cross-sectional approach. The number of samples was 23 young women in the Darun Najah Orphanage, Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Measuring blood pressure using a digital blood pressure device while Body Mass Index is calculated by measuring body weight and height. Hemoglobin levels in female adolescents were significantly related to BMI (Body Mass Index) and Diastolic blood pressure, but Hemoglobin levels were not significantly related to systolic blood pressure.

Abstract

Dengue fever is transmitted by the bite of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes infected with denguevirus. Preparations antinyamuk much use of harmful chemicals such as DEET (diethylmetatoluamide) and permethrin that can lead to pollution of the environment, leavingno residue and cause resistance to the drug. To determine the activity of essential oils from herbs basil (Ocimum Sanctum L) in the preparation of spray as a mosquito repellent and determine the effective concentrationof the spray. This type of research is True experiment with design Post Test Only Control Group Design. Repellent activity was observed by means of spray is sprayed on the back of the hand probandus, then tested on female mosquitoes with the introduction into the cage containing20 mosquitoes each treatment. Spray essential oils showed repellent activity of Aedes aegypti with a value of correlation r = 0.964 higher concentration of essential oils the fewer mosquitoes that land. Spray herbal essential oil of basil (Ocimum basilicum L) has a repellent activitycompared to the negative control. The effectiveness of the herb basil essential oil sprayobtainedat 74.131 ppm lC50 and lC90 of  775.711 ppm
