Abstract

Delivering media relations activities is a need for organizations to convey public the information they have released. Rapid increase of technology and public’s dynamic force Public Relations practitioners to be able to adapt on it. In the era of interactive communication, media relations activities can be done by applying communication technology through internet, therefore it can be performed effectively.

Abstract

Nowadays, Indonesian business are growing and developing rapidly. Every year, department store or mall are being build in many cities in Indonesian. This condition make every mall have to think about how to deal with the competition. Event are one program did by the mall’s management in order to attract customer. Event has to be well managed so that the event can give advantage for the mall. Event management is one of Public Relations (PR) department’s duty.This research discuss about Public Relations role in Galleria Mall PR Department and Plaza Ambarrukmo PR Department, related to event management. Both PR department do the writing media release, publicity, and media relations. Meanwhile there are difference role between Galeria Mall PR Department and Plaza Ambarrukmo PR Department in the role as conceptor, stage manager, and supporting unit.

Abstract

Using qualitative approach, this study aims to analyse the participatory communication in the children empowerment programs held by Sekolah Gunung Merapi and Komunitas Jendela Jogja, as well as its supporting and undermining factors. The data of this study were collected through in-depth interviews, semi-participant observations, and document collections. Six informants were involved in this study, which were purposively selected as they are activists of the two research communities. As a result, the study shows that participation in children empowerment programs in Yogyakarta appears at four processes: decision-making, activities implementation, monitoring and evaluation and outcome utility. In each process, they mostly use the concept of dialogue and carnival participation. In terms of participation level, the children empowerment programs held by Sekolah Gunung Merapi and Komunitas Jendela Jogja are both in partnership level with roles as accelerator, mediator, educator, expert and social planner. The supporting factors in the children empowerment programs include supports and facilities while the undermining factors are the lacks of number and teaching skill from volunteer’s side and troubles from student’s side.Keywords: Children empowerment program; participation; participatory communication; Sekolah Gunung Merapi; Komunitas Jendela Jogja.

Abstract

Science and Technology for society (IbM) is one of the community services focused on the implementation of science and technological advances from the university to enhance the technological insight and skill of the society. The program is carried out in terms of community service and study on the technological advances of the university. The target of this program is the public as a whole, ranging from an individual, group, community, to some instances in both urban and rural areas. The program is offered to the university in particular towards lecturers and research centers by Directorate of Research and Community Service (DRPM) and Directorate General of Research and Development Strengthening of the Ministry of Higher Education Research and Technology, Government of Indonesia in terms of research grant throgh research proposal application to be selected. This is conducted in order to realize the new paradigm of community service by the university namely solving the problem, comprehensive, totally meaningful,and sustainable with more multiple targets. In 2016, the author recieved the grant and used it for research. Since one of the requirements of the target audience of this program is a group, the program is conducted towards IbM on a group of women artisans of handmade batik Canting Merapi and Fiber Merapi, which was established in 2013, through the program of Life Skills Improvement (PKH) Oriented on Women Empowerment hosted by the Center for Gender Studies, Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) in collaboration with the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DPPM) Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud). The group was selected for the sake of sustainability and also because the group has the potential to grow with its distinctive motif pattern of scarce flora and fauna that only grows on the slopes of Merapi. In addition, the resulted batik is also environmentally friendly since it does not use any synthetic dyes but only natural dyes. Therefore, this article will elucidate the women empowerment programs that have been carried in particular both the method and aspects of priority issues to be resolved. The activities are carried out by community empowerment (Participatory rural appraisal). While the two priority issues to be resolved are the aspects of production and management. The Aspect of production is solely focused on raw materials, motif design, and production equipment. Meanwhile, the aspect of management is closely related to venture capital, financial management, sales, marketing, and human resources skills.
