Abstract

ABSTRACT The success of a company is supported by the role of a leader with his leadership style. The application of leadership is very influential on employee work motivation because to meet their needs requires the support from a leader. Occupational safety and health (OHS) programs are very important because when employees give a good perception of occupational safety and health programs, OHS behavior tends to be good. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of leadership style with work motivation, employee performance, and health safety perception in Cendana Water Treatment Plant of PDAM Tirta Kencana, Samarinda City. This type of analytic survey research with cross sectional approach was conducted in July 2019. The research sample of 54 people (total sampling) and data analysis using Pearson correlation test with significance level (α<0,05). The results showed that as many as 34 employees rated the authoritarian leadership style with most employees having low and high motivation (p-value 0,022), as many as 20 employees having moderate performance (p-value 0,008), as many as 21 employees having good OHS perceptions (p-value 0,000). It was concluded that there was a relationship between leadership style with work motivation, leadership style with employee performance, and leadership style with K3 perception in Cendana Water Treatment Plant of PDAM Tirta Kencana, Samarinda City. The leader must be able to apply a more effective leadership style, for example applying a democratic leadership style that always receives input and advice from his subordinates. Abstract

Rice milling is an informal sector which still lacks attention in terms of occupational health and safety aspects. Health problems experienced by one of them are complaints of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) which have an impact on decreasing work productivity. This study aims to determine the factors that influence complaints of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in rice milling workers in Sepaku Sub-district, Penajam Paser Utara Regency. This research is a quantitative study with cross sectional research design. Sampling using purposive sampling method that amounted to 35 people. Data analysis used the rank-spearman test with a significance level of 0.05 (5%). The results showed that there was a significant relationship between work posture (p = 0,000) and the risk of manual handling material (MMH) (p = 0.005), with complaints of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Whereas in the physical workload, there was no association with complaints of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) (p = 0.095). It is suggested for workers to do material manual handling (MMH) with the correct procedure, reduce awkward work postures during work and stretch the muscles before working and adequate rest so as to reduce fatigue and perceived muscle tension.

Quantitative research with cross-sectional approach is done on September – October 2018 with total samples of 50 artisans (total sampling). Measuring instruments which are used are questionnaire and lux meter type DX-100. Data analysis uses Phi correlation test with a = 0.05. Research result shows woven sarong artisan who experiences eyestrain symptom as many as (64%), and woven sarong artisan who does not experience eyestrain symptom (36%). There are correlation between age (p = 0.000) and work time (p = 0.003). There are no correlation between daily working time (p = 0.090) and lighting intensity (p= 0.486). It is suggested to artisans to use toolkit such as magnifiying glass, to manage working time, and break time to minimize eyestrain occurrence. For artisan who uses lamp as main lighting source to pay attention lighting level which is used, in this case is lux lighting.

Abstract

The aviation industry operates in a high-risk environment where safety is paramount. Despite the implementation of Safety Management Systems (SMS), aviation incidents often highlight gaps not in compliance, but in safety culture—how individuals and organizations perceive and prioritize safety. A mature and robust safety culture can significantly reduce accidents and improve operational reliability. This study aims to explore and describe the safety culture profile in the aviation sector, particularly focusing on the maturity of safety practices at the individual, group, and organizational levels. A cross-sectional study was conducted using the Nordic Occupational Safety Climate Questionnaire (NOSACQ-50), a validated instrument to assess safety culture. A total of 183 aviation workers from various operational units participated in the survey. In addition to quantitative analysis, focus group discussions (FGDs) were held with selected management and operational staff to provide contextual insights into survey findings. The results showed that the overall safety culture maturity level among respondents was categorized as proactive, with the highest scores in management commitment (85.0) and safety procedures (85.0). However, relatively lower scores were observed in risk perception (70.5) and work environment (70.0), indicating areas for targeted improvement. These findings suggest that while aviation organizations have made considerable progress in building a strong safety culture, further efforts are needed to enhance risk awareness at the individual level and improve environmental factors influencing safety behaviour. Interventions should emphasize participatory safety practices, continuous communication, and reinforcement of risk-based thinking
