Abstract

Hadith which is the second source of Islamic law also has problems, there are contradictory hadiths that are outwardly contradictory, including the hadith about ablution where ablution is important worship that completes other worships. This paper aims to map several contradictory hadiths about ablution and describe the method of solving it according to Imam aṣ-Ṣanʻānī. The results of this study indicate that there are several contradictory hadiths about ablution, such as about the number and the way of wiping the head, and things that abrogate ablution. The methods used by Imam aṣ-Ṣanʻānī in resolving these contradictory hadiths mostly use the compromise method and use the tarjih method also. Comparisons with other classical scholars' solving methods are also discussed.
