Abstract

This study concluded that polygamy practiced by some Muslims did not have adequate syar'i arguments and were not in accordance with the principles of social justice outlined in the Qur'an. Whereas the arguments that have been used by classical scholars only constitute the justification of the verses of the Qur'an to synchronize classical culture with gender bias. The verses of polygamy in essence contain the rules of justice in treating orphans and not for the legality of polygamy in Islam.

Abstract

This article aims to determine the implications that can arise from the dichotomy of science. Namely the emergence of a gap between the source of knowledge in the form of religious knowledge and general knowledge. Proponents of the religious knowledge only consider the divine source valid in the form of scriptures and prophetic traditions and reject non-scriptural sources as an authoritative source to explain true truth. On the other hand, secular scientists only consider valid information obtained through sensory observation. The method used in this study is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data collection was conducted through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation analysis and focused group discussion. This research shows that there is really no sorting of science and religion. The research findings provide an overview of science and the knowledge of religion is integral. If science is addressed with a dichotomy, it will certainly give birth to different thoughts in building world civilization.

Abstract

The debate over the relationship between religion and the state reappeared when the New Order regime was at its peak of power, the 1980s. This has a fundamental need to strengthen the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) and establish Pancasila as the only state ideology and the only principle for religious and social organizations. This need certainly created an extraordinary paradigmatic controversy among all components of the nation, especially Muslims: between following the political will of the New Order or remaining a supporter of the establishment of an "Islamic state", not a Pancasila state. This is a big dilemma for the Indonesian people which in reality consists of thousands of islands, hundreds of ethnicities and languages, and dozens of religions, while the majority of the population is Muslim where the idea of establishing an 'Islamic state' has not vanished from the ideals of a number of Islamic organizations or groups.
