Abstract

Pericopsis mooniana Thw has a hard seed coat, making it difficult to germinate. This type of seed needs of seed selection and scarification to speed up the germination process, in order to produce a high germination and good seedling. The study aims to increase the value of germination of P. mooniana seed through seed selection based on seed color and scarification techniques. Experimental design used was completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors and three replications. The first factor is seed color (W0 = no selected seeds, W1 = yellowish seeds and W2 = brownish seeds). The second factor is scarification seeds (S0 = without soaked, S1 = soaked in cold water for 24 hours, S2 = soaked in hot water (800C) for 24 hours and S3 = soaked in sulphuric acid/H2SO4 (0.1 M) for 20 minutes. Parameters observed were first time of germination, speed of germination and germination percentage. This study was conducted at the greenhouse, Forestry Research Institute of Makassar in July - August 2015. The result of study showed that yellowish seeds and brownish seed can shortened the time of first germination and increased the germination speed by using scarification technique of seed soaking in hot water to increase germination rate up to 76%.

Abstract

Kayu kuku termasuk dalam jenis kayu lokal Sulawesi yang saat ini masuk kategori terancam punah, sehingga perlu upaya konservasi dan reforestasi untuk menjamin kelestariannya. Salah satu penyebabnya dikarenakan penggunaannya yang terus meningkat tanpa diiringi upaya reforestasi, sehingga populasinya semakin berkurang. Kayu kuku dapat dimanfaatkan untuk melakukan kegiatan revegetasi lahan kritis dikarenakan kayu kuku mampu hidup pada lahan marginal dan miskin hara serta termasuk dalam jenis piooner.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi kayu kuku (Pericopsis mooniana TWH) untuk revegetasi lahan kritis. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu metode eksperimen dengan menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan tiga perlakuan yaitu Media Bekas Tambang (MBT) ditambahkan kompos dan NPK 0.2 g (M1), MBT ditambahkan mikoriza (M2) dan MBT tanpa ada tambahan (M3).Penelitian dilaksanakan di rumah kaca (green house) Balai Penelitian dan Pengembangan Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan Makassar (BPPLHKM), di Makassar selama empat bulan antara bulan Januari hingga April 2016. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan MBT tanpa ada tambahan memperoleh pertambahan tinggi yang lebih baik (19.35 cm / 192%) dibandingkan dengan perlakuan M1 (13.38 cm atau 129%) dan M2 (18.21 cm 170%). Pengaruh media terhadap pertambahan diameter tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan. Dengan hasil tersebut, pemanfaatan kayu kuku untuk uji coba lapangan tidak memerlukan intervensi apapun untuk menopang pertumbuhannya. Dalam Indeks Mutu Bibit, terlihat bahwa perlakuan M3 menunjukkan nilai yang lebih baik dibandingkan kedua perlakuan M1 dan M2 yang masing – masing sebesar 0.57 ; 0.46 ; 0.18. Nilai Indeks Mutu Bibit yang diperoleh dari ketiga perlakuan masuk dalam kategori baik atau bibit kayu kuku sudah siap dan mampu bertahan hidup ketika akan diuji coba pada skala lapangan pada umur empat bulan. Kata kunci: Kayu kuku, lahan kritis, revegetasi

Abstract

As one of the problems in the post-mining land reclamation are selection and utilization of local/native species for guarantee of success reclamation, because these types of relatively more adaptive. Pericopsis mooniana Thw. is one of the local species Sulawesi which capable of adapting to unproductive land, but the data and information via the research has not been done. This study aims to determine the potensial of Pericopsis to be used on land-reclamation on post-mining land. The study was conducted in a greenhouse BPPLHKM, in Makassar with four months between May and August 2016 and using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments media composition. The results showed that the potential of Pericopsis more efficient use of post-mining land, or mix media of soil, compost and sand, compared to adding mycorrhiza isolates and NPK fertilizer for reclamation. The mean value Seed Quality Index of ≥ 0,50 obtained with a mean increase in height and diameter of seedlings of ≥ 19 cm and ≥ 2 mm, and the mean of top root ratio is 2 point. Pericopsis nursery does not require additional fertilizer, although nutrient-poor conditions as well as post-mining land for the earlier step in planting.
