Abstract

This article analyzes the transformation of paradigms in the literature of Ulumul Quran and Ulumul Hadis in Indonesia. The study employs historical, discourse analysis, and al-Jabiri’s reading theory to explore the construction and dynamics of these disciplines. The findings reveal that the study of Ulumul Quran and Ulumul Hadis in Indonesia experienced stagnation until the late 20th century, with most literature being reiterations of Middle Eastern scholars’ works. However, the post-1990s era marked a paradigm shift influenced by Western thought and modern approaches such as phenomenology and hermeneutics. This study recommends interdisciplinary methods to enhance the relevance of these fields in Indonesia's contemporary socio-cultural context. Additionally, Living Quran and Living Hadis studies are proposed as new research directions to explore the social and religious dimensions of Islamic texts.

Abstract

This article elucidates several theories of scripture to view the Quran as the word of God and as a holy book responded by its readers. By reading scripture, oral and aural, inspirational, deductive and inductive theories, this article has found out that the Quran enters most of these theories. If Smith proposes the theory that scripture is a human activity, then the Quran is one of the most widely received scriptures in the form of various interpretations that greatly influences the emergence of Muslim religious practices. Smith even called the Quran a holy book par excellent. Scripture theories that were born in the context of Christian theology turned out to provide surprising evidence that the holy book in Christianity and Islam had several things in common: similar in terms of revelation, although in different forms, similar in terms of responding to the holy book, and similar in that the holy book had a strong influence on its adherents.

Abstract

In the treasury of Hadith literature from the time of the Companions until today, there are only a few Hadith collections explicitly and clearly stating that they are compilations of authentic Hadiths. Some of them include Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Ṣaḥīḥ ibn Khuzaymah, Ṣaḥīḥ ibn Ḥibbān, Ṣaḥīḥ ibn Sakan, and Ṣaḥīḥ ibn al-Syarqī. This article will provide information about Ṣaḥīḥ ibn Ḥibbān. This book is considered to have a different model of writing compared to other authentic books. Besides the systematic arrangement, the compiler also sets different criteria for the authenticity of Hadiths, unlike most Hadith scholars.

Abstract

The main concern of this study is how the Qur'an can address each of its readers in a current and contextual manner. So far, the Qur'an has been claimed as a religious text that remains relevant for all times and places (shāliḥ li kull zamān wa makān), whereas at the time of its revelation, the Qur'an (certain verses within it) had its own context (historical context). Hence, understanding the occasions of revelation (Asbāb al-Nuzūl) of the Qur'an becomes crucial in order to comprehend its verses.

Abstract

This article proves its strength hegemony orientation of Fiqh in hadith region, even defeat the orientation of hadith itself and other orientation like orientation tasawuf. For the reason, this article also indicates that one of the forming factors of al-Kutub al-Sittah and its acceptance aspect, is more response of Fiqh interest rather than the codification of hadith. This at least shown by some primary factor that is orientation of Fiqh in hadith riwaya, forming of hadith school, and Fiqh main stream in hadith codification.
