Abstract

This study aims to analyze the economic efficiency of rice farming and to measure the contribution of rice farming to total household income and to analyze the living standard of farm households in Sambeng Kulon Village, Kembaran Sub-district, Banyumas Regency. The study was conducted in Sambeng Kulon Village, Kembaran Sub-district, Banyumas District. There were 71 farm households selected by stratified random sampling. The analysis used to calculate the economic efficiency of rice farming is R/C ratio. The contribution of paddy farming to farm household income is obtained by dividing the income earned from rice farming by the total household income multiplied by 100 percent. The living standard is measured by calculating the farm household income divided by the number of dependents in order to get percapita income. This figure is then compared to the regency’s current decent living standard. The results of this study indicate that 1) rice farming in Sambeng Kulon village with an area of ≤ 0.5 Ha has a smaller profit (IDR2.718.580) compared with respondents who have land area> 0.5 Ha (IDR7.892.904), 2) the average contribution of rice farming income to farm households with landholding of ≤ 0.5 Ha (54,96 percent) is lower than the contribution of rice farming income obtained by respondents with landholding of > 0.5 Ha (77,43 percent), 3) the average income earned by respondents from rice farming (IDR1.624.961,00) is sufficient to meet the average household consumption of IDR 1,379,441.00, and 4) of 71 respondents in Sambeng Kulon Village, 63 respondents live below the decent living standard; after being added with nonfarm income, this figure decreased to 55 respondents. The implication of this research is that the respondents are expected to increase the landholding to increase income earned from rice farming or earn additional nonfarm income so that they can meet household consumption.

Abstract

Previous studies have indicated that the direct influence of cooperative capital on surplus (SHU) is linear and positive. However, how the capital can increase surplus has not been formally explained. Therefore, in this article the authors try to explain the mechanism of the influence of cooperative capital on surplus (SHU) by including turnover as an intervening variable in the relationship between cooperative capital and surplus. This study used secondary data which consist of cooperative capital, surplus, and business turnover from 43 cooperatives in Indonesia recorded in the annual report of the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs 2016. Cooperative capital, surplus, and trunover are measured in rupiah. Path analysis was employed to analyze the data. The effect of mediation was tested by the causal method developed by Baron & Kenny and the product of coefficient method developed by Sobel. The results indicate that turnover perfectly mediates the relationship between cooperative capital and surplus. This research contributes to the lacking formal logical explanation of the relationship between cooperative capital and surplus, that is, cooperative capital encourages business turnover which eventually increases surplus. Therefore, cooperatives in Indonesia should be able to increase cooperative capital, especially internal capital or supporting external capital. In addition, the government should also encourage efforts to develop and promote cooperatives in Indonesia by making policies to facilitate financial access for cooperatives

Abstract

The study is based on the patterns of food consumption in the community that has not reached the minimum nutritional standard for activities. This study aimed to determine the impact of the Sustainable Food House Area (KRPL) Program on DDP score, energy consumption, protein consumption and household foodstuff expenditure in Banjarnegara Regency. Primary data were obtained from the KRPL and non-KRPL benefidciaries. Secondary data were obtained from Food Security Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Central Java Province Food Security Department and the Banjarnegara Regency Food Security Department. The analytical tool used t-test between the KRPL beneficiary group and the non-KRPL beneficiary group. The analysis result indicated that there were significant differences in DDP scores, energy consumption, and foodstuff expenditure between the KRPL and non-KRPL groups. DDP score of KRPL group was higher than non-KRPL group. This indicated that consumption of the KRPL group was more diverse and nutritionally balanced. The energy consumption of the KRPL group was higher than the non-KRPL group, so that the energy adequacy of the KRPL group was closer to the recommended dietary allowance. Protein consumption in the KRPL group was higher and has met the recommended dietary allowance, while the non-KRPL group has not met the recommended dietary allowance. The foodstuff expenditure in the KRPL group was lower than the non-KRPL group because there were savings on the foodstuff expenditure. Thus, the KRPL Program has an impact on increasing DDP scores, energy consumption and savings on household food expenditure. Keywords : Sustainable Food House Area (KRPL), energy consumption, protein consumption, foodstuff expenditure, DDP score.

Abstract

Agriculture is the major contributor to the Brebes Regency's Gross Regional Domestic Product and employment, and rice constitutes the principal crop. Bantarkawung District is the leading producer of rice in the Brebes Regency. However, most of the paddy fields in Bantarkawung are rain-fed, so rice growing is hindered during the dry season due to a water shortage. This study's objective is to assess the farm profits obtained by households and the contribution of rice farming to household income. The population comprises 445 rice-farming families in Waru Village, from which 82 rice farmers were randomly selected. Interviews with respondents were conducted in March 2022. The variables include revenue, costs, profit, and household income. The analytical instruments consist of profit analysis and income contribution. Profit analysis was calculated using the R/C ratio, and the income contribution was calculated by comparing the profit of rainfed rice farming with farm household income. The results indicate that rainfed rice cultivation in Waru Village is profitable. The R/C is more than one, in the range of 1.22 to 2.10. Nonetheless, the contribution of rainfed rice farming to household income is small, ranging from 0.7% to 22.85%. The findings suggest that rainfed rice farmers in Waru Village should be able to sustain their farms because this type of cultivation is profitable despite its reliance on rainwater for irrigation. In addition, it is envisaged that the government, through the appropriate agencies, will enhance the road infrastructure to enable the transfer of agricultural inputs and outputs, offer the necessary socialization, and help boost production.
