Abstract

ABSTRACT  Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive disease characterized by airflow limitation that does not fully return to normal and is associated with the increased inflammatory response in the airways due to exposure to noxious particles or gases. Workers are susceptible to exposure to steam, dust, gases, and fumes in the work environment. Administration of antioxidants can be beneficial in COPD patients by reducing oxidative stress to reduce the inflammatory response. Ginger contains various active ingredients that act as antioxidants. The research design is a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test approach. The research subjects were 30 subjects workers diagnosed with COPD. Subjects were divided into two groups: the control group was given standard therapy, the treatment group was given standard therapy and ginger extract. The treatment was given for one month, then the neutrophil and the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) scores were checked. The data were analyzed with an unpaired difference test. The treatment group (-5.67 +2.32) experienced more CAT decline than the control group (-0.73 +1.28) and showed a significant difference; this was evidenced in the unpaired difference test on the post-pre difference value (p = <0.001). The treatment group (-4.93 +4.43) experienced more neutrophil decline than the control group (0.27 +1.10) and showed a significant difference; this was evidenced in the unpaired difference test on the post-pre difference value (p = < 0.001). Administration of ginger extract can reduce neutrophil levels and CAT scores in COPD workers due to dust exposure. Keywords             : COPD, CAT score, neutrophil, gingerCorrespondence   : susilobudipratama@gmail.com

Abstract

Breast milk is a quality baby food because it contains nutrients and immunity. The high percentage of working mothers who breastfeed (92.5%) is directly proportional to the number of babies who consume pumped breast milk. It is feared that the storage of breast milk at a specified temperature and time can reduce its quality, including immunoglobulin A (IgA) levels. Objective: The objective of this study was to prove the effect of storage temperature on the quality of breast milk (IgA). Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-post-test design with a control group design. The sampling technique used purposive sampling of 32 nursing mothers in the experimental group and 32 nursing mothers in the control group included in the inclusion criteria (divided into control and experimental groups). The bivariate analysis utilized paired until t-test followed by independent t-test. Results: There was a decrease in IgA levels in the cooler bag storage temperature (4-8 0C) for 6 hours with an average difference of -18.264 ng/ml (p-value 0.012). IgA levels also decreased at room temperature storage (26 0C) for 6 hours with an average difference of -373.209 ng/ml (p-value 0.000). Different tests in the two groups had an average difference in IgA levels of -354.945 ng/ml (p-value 0.000), which meant significant differences. Conclusion: Storage temperature at cooler bag temperature 4-8 0C is better than room temperature of 26 0C on breast milk quality (IgA level).

Abstract

Abstract : Neck pain is discomfort feeling which often felt by workers with tense and burning sensations in the area of the neck due to static and repetitive work activities. Nurses carried out risk activities for ergonomics such as strange work postures with repetitive movements and lifting weights. These activities disrupted the health of workers, especially in the musculoskeletal area. The purpose of this study determined the relationship between work posture on the activities of patients handling complaints of neck pain in a central surgical installation nurse. The type of research used quantitative, cross-sectional study. The populations in this study were 40 people with 32 nurses as a sample, the sampling techniques used purposive sampling. The instrument in this study used a nordic body map questionnaire to find out perceived sensations and posture observations using BRIEF survey sheets to observe the risk of nurse's posture. The statistical analysis used the chi-square test. The results showed there was no relationship between the variable posture of lift (p-value 0.198), repositioning (p-value 0.446) and transfer (p-value 0.581). However, there is a relationship between the working period with neck pain (p-value 0.024). The present study enhances our understanding of the influence of safe work posture and appropriate stretching methods. The further socialization is needed by the institute collaborated to physiotherapists in order to prevent neck pain

Abstract

Hospital nutrition installation is a vulnerable place that has high accident risk because there are many dangerous types ofzequipment and environmental conditions that could jeopardized the worker. The objective of this research was to analyzed the relations between variables of accident, workplace environment, room temperature, occupational safety and health training, commitment of workers, occupational safety and health procedure, and exhaustion with workplace accident. This research with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this research was food handler of K.R.M.T Wongsonegoro hospital in Semarang amounting to 75 people used simple random sampling technique with 43 respontdent. The data collection was done by fulfilling the accident, , workplace environment, room temperature, occupational safety and health training, commitment questionnaire and also assessing the room temperature using heat stress monitors. Data analysis used the chi-square test. The result showed that there was no relationship between workplace environment, occupational safety and health training, occupational safety and health procedure, exhaustion and there is relationship between room temperature (p-value = 0,012, ???? = 0,05) commitment of workers (p-value = 0,040, ???? = 0,05) with workplace accident on food handler in nutrition installation. The management should educate workers about body fluid requirements for hot environments, conduct routine checks every month through temperature and humidity monitoring sheets, during monthly routine meetings at nutrition installations, it would be better if sharing was done about complaints and sought solutions together.

Abstract

The issue about patient safety is one of important issues in health service. The implementation of patient safety is a must for all health services. The community health center as the institution which provides primary health services and makes the first contact to the individual, family, and the community, have to emphasize patient safety. “Seven Steps to Patient Safety” is a guide to the community health center to implement the patient safety program. The objective of this study id to analyze the implementation of patient safety in Mangkang Community Health Center. This is a qualitative research with dedscriptive approach. The data collection technique is through an interview and observation. The main informants are six staffs of each clinical units in Mangkang Community Health Center who know about the implementation of patient safety. The result of this study shows the implementation of patient safety in Mangkang Community Health Centre has not been optimized.  The duty of PMKP team is not clear; there is no initiator of patient safety in each of clinical units; the implementation of patient safety is still in the step of collecting data; the lack of awareness in the importance of patient safety; the lack of staffs commitment in building the implementation of patient safety; there is no policy regarding the open communication with patient and their family; and the implementation of RCA which is not appropriate with the procedure. The suggestions given by the researcher are pointing the initiator of patient safety in each of clinical units; making policy/guides/SOP regarding the main tasks and functions of PMKP team; making policy regarding the open communication with patient and family; and increasing the commitment in building the implementation of patient safety.
