Abstract

In this pandemic era, integrating technological tools into teaching and learning activities is an ideal option to facilitate students in understanding and mastering English. Webquest is one of the web-based tools used in English learning. This study shed light on the use of Webquest in English learning through reviewing twenty journal articles to determine the effectiveness of utilizing Webquest in improving students’ English skills and components. ERIC, Academia, JSTOR, and Elsevier are the primary online database sources used in this study. The result of the investigation revealed that Webquest not only highly contributed to the enhancement of students’ listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills but also greatly supported the development of students’ grammar and vocabulary masteries. In short, Webquest is an ideal alternative learning tool to promote the development of students’ English skills and components.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk membuktikan bahwa terdapat perbedaan penilaian etis mengenai manajemen laba dari seorang manajer pengamat yang mempunyai nilai etis yang berbeda, yaitu idealis dan realis terhadap manajer agen yang dikenal maupun tidak dikenalnya secara pribadi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan melibatkan 106 responden yang dibagi kedalam empat kuadran, yaitu (1) manajer pengamat idealis yang mengenal baik manajer agen, (2) manajer pengamat idealis yang tidak mengenal baik manajer agen, (3) manajer pengamat realis yang mengenal baik manajer agen, (4) manajer pengamat realis yang tidak mengenal baik manajer agen. Untuk melihat apakah terdapat perbedaan penilaian mengenai manajemen tersebut, para responden diminta untuk memberikan respon terhadap kasus manajemen laba yang disajikan dalam bentuk kuisioner. Hasil analisis data penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ditemukan perbedaan tersebut. Penelitian ini diharapkan memberikan wawasan yang bermanfaat tentang hubungan antara nilai etika individu dan penilaian etis yang tidak hanya bergantung pada hubungan dekat tetapi juga faktor-faktor terkait lainnya seperti latar belakang pribadi, sosial, dan lingkungan.

Abstract

Education sector in the 21st Century has continuously changed and relied more on technology. The evolution of the use of technology in education leads to the emergence of gamification. Duolingo is a language learning platform that provides free language courses through web and mobile apps that instills gamification aspects. The objective of this study is to investigate the students’ perceptions and attitudes towards the utilization of Duolingo in EFL learning. This descriptive study involved twenty students of a non-English education study program through purposive sampling technique. The criteria of selecting the participants were based on the participation in English Learning class and the active use Duolingo for English practice outside the course hours. The researchers employed a questionnaire and an interview to collect the data. The data of the questionnaire were analyzed quantitatively through simple percentage analysis of SPSS. Meanwhile, the data of the interview were analyzed qualitatively through Miles, et al. Model consisting of collection, classification, description, interpretation, and conclusion. The results revealed that the students provided positive feedbacks towards thirty statements of questionnaire and three questions of interview that representing their perceptions and attitudes towards the utilization of Duolingo in EFL learning. The students believed that learning English through Duolingo was easy, fun, engaging, and motivating. In short, the students had positive perceptions and attitudes towards the utilization of Duolingo in EFL learning.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to design a coursebook for teaching English as a university compulsory subject. This research employed a Research and Development study that involves four English lecturers and eighty freshmen as the participants. Interviews and questionnaires were used as instruments to collect the data. The qualitative data were analyzed by using the adapted Miles and Huberman Model. Meanwhile, the quantitative data were analyzed by using a simple percentage analysis. At the end of this research, an English Coursebook, English for Collegian, has been finally completed. This book covers 14 units and each unit consists of seven main parts that accommodate comprehensive learning activities for each meeting. It is expected that this research brings fruitful impacts, especially in accommodating lecturers and students’ needs, improving students’ learning achievement, and boosting lecturers’ motivation to create teaching material.

Abstract

This study seeks to present an overview of the positive effects of incorporating Duolingo into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. Through a review of fifteen journal articles sourced from reputable online databases, the researcher analyzed the effectiveness of using Duolingo in EFL learning. The findings indicated that integrating Duolingo into EFL learning had several benefits, including improved mastery of grammar and vocabulary, enhanced listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills, and increased student motivation to learn. The results of this study provide valuable and comprehensive information regarding the positive impacts of incorporating Duolingo into EFL learning. Such information is not commonly presented in similar research, which often focuses on investigating the use of Duolingo to improve specific English skills or components. This research aims to contribute to the development of EFL research by offering new insights into the integration of Duolingo into EFL learning.

Abstract

Technology development has led to the rise of social media, which affects all facets of a person's life, including Gen Z. The purpose of this study is to show Gen Z's overall opinions about Twitter's contribution to their English language development. In this poll, 84 Gen Z participants, ranging in age from 15 to 27, from diverse backgrounds and residences across Indonesia, took part. The participants divulged their answers to the survey questions concerning Twitter's contribution to the evolution of Gen Z English. Simple percentage analysis was used to examine the respondents' questionnaire responses, and the results were explained in relation to relevant theories and earlier research. This study revealed that Twitter plays a significant role in fostering the development of Gen Z English. Twitter not only helps Generation Z become more fluent in English, but it also gives them a platform to voice their opinions, share information, promote themselves, and engage in communication. This study offers useful data and fresh perspectives that may help us comprehend the part social media plays in Gen Z's English development.
