Abstract

The increase in paddy rice production has been carried out by the government with the implementation of technological innovation through extension activities involving farmer participation. This study aims to analyze descriptively the participation of farmers in extension activities and adoption of rice fertilization and analyze the factors associated with farmer participation in extension activities and adoption of rice paddy fertilization. The study was conducted in Kersamanah, Garut. The sample of the study was 87 rice farmers taken by Cluster Random Sampling technique. Independent variables include the characteristics of farmers, extension activities and farmer participation in extension activities and the dependent variable is the adoption of rice fertilization. The analysis technique used is descriptive analysis and Rank Spearman correlation analysis. The results showed that farmer participation in extension activities was classified as low. The adoption of farmers includes a high level of knowledge, the attitude of farmers is moderate and the skills of farmers are classified as moderate. Factors related to farmer participation in extension activities are land area, family dependents and extension activities. Factors related to farmers' knowledge are the length of farming and land area. The attitude of farmers is related to extension activities and farmer participation in extension activities. Farmers' skills are related to land area.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of method and duration of application composting green manure (legume) on the growth and mustard (Brassica juncea L.) production. This study was located in Experimental Station of Bogor Agricultural Extension College in Pasir Kuda Village, Bogor. Started on June August 2013. The experimental design used was completely randomized block design (CRBD), factorial split plot (split plot design). The first factor was main plot (green manure application method) consists of two levels, namely spreaded and buried. The second factor was subplot (duration of green manure composting) consists of three levels, namely 2 weeks pre-planting (-2 MST), one week pre-planting (-1 MST) and 0 MST or at planting time. The results of analysis using the F test showed that the application of green manure spreaded around the plant (as mulch) generate growth, shoot weight, root weight, roots number and root length were better, and generate mustard production higher than buried green manure application. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh cara dan lama pengomposan pupuk hijau (legume) terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi caisim (Brassica juncea L.). Penelitian ini berlokasi di Kebun Percobaan STPP Bogor, Kelurahan Pasir Kuda, Kota Bogor dimulai pada Juni - Agustus 2013. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok Lengkap (RAKL) faktorial petak terpisah (split plot design). Faktor pertama berupa petak utama (cara aplikasi pupuk hijau) terdiri dari dua level yaitu ditebar dan dibenam. Faktor kedua berupa anak petak (waktu pengomposan pupuk hijau) terdiri dari tiga level yaitu 2 minggu sebelum tanam (-2 MST), 1 minggu sebelum tanam (-1 MST) dan 0 MST atau saat tanam. Hasil analisis dengan menggunakan uji F menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi pupuk hijau ditebar (sebagai mulsa) menghasilkan pertumbuhan, bobot tajuk, bobot akar, jumlah akar dan panjang akar yang lebih baik, serta menghasilkan produksi caisim lebih tinggi dibandingkan aplikasi pupuk hijau yang dibenam.

Abstract

Factors that can support agricultural development are human resources, natural resources and appropriate technology. The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of the younger generation, analyze the factors influencing the perception of the younger generation in lowland rice business, and develop strategies to strengthen the perception of the younger generation in farming in the lowland rice agricultural sector to achieve food security. The population was taken based on purposive sampling, obtained a sample of 43 respondents from 107 populations. The research method is descriptive quantitative with data collection used in the form of observation, questionnaires/questionnaires, interviews and literature studies. Analysis of the data usedusing descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression. Characteristics of the younger generation who farm 88% are male, the most age is 21-26 and 33-39 years with a percentage of 30%, the age with the most rice business is 33-39 years with 46%, the most education is high school graduates with the percentage of 65% and as much as 65% doing farming are under 5 years. Extension activities (X2.1) and the influence of parents (X2.2) are factors that affect the perception of the younger generation with a real influence (p<0.05).
