Abstract

A speaker in a multilanguage must have a language choice to define a language whichto be used in communication. Indonesian people consists of various cultures, races, andethnics, and also variety of languages which they used to communicated between theirfamilies and socities. This research wants to find out the language choice of Bugineseethnic in the family domain based on roles relation and age category in DonggalaRegency. This research aims to (1) described the patterns of language choice of theBuginese ethnic in the family domain based on roles relation and age category inDonggala Regency; (2) to analyzed the based factors of language choice of theBuginese ethnic in the family domain based on roles relation and age category inDonggala Regency. This research used a sociolinguistics approach method byquestionnaire, interview, observe, and record. The data analyzed based on thepercentage of language choice of the Buginese ethnic in family domain. The resultsshows that Buginese ethnic in Donggala Regency, 83,7% used Buginese as a meduim ofcommunication in family domain, 7,7% used Bahasa Indonesia, and 8,3% used both ofBuginese and Bahasa Indonesia, and only 0,3 % used mother tongue (DampalLanguage).

Abstract

One of the phenomena of language contact is interference. Languageinterference can occur at the level of phonology, morphology, sintax, andlexical. This research aims to describe the lexical interference in the locallanguage on the use of Indonesian language by the teenagers in Palu and alsodescribe the lexical factors causing interference local languange intoIndonesian language. The method used is participant’s observation, that is byobservation, recording, and note-taking. The data classified by the types ofinterference and then analyzed by structure. The result shows that the using ofIndonesian language by teenagers in Palu, there is lexical interference, namelylexical interference of local language (mother tongue), lexical interference ofderivative words (Betawi language and Javanese language), and lexicalinterference of foreign language (English). Lexical interference influenced bybilingualism, the low of language loyalty, the prestige of source language andlanguage style, and the influence of mother tongue.

Abstract

The use of Indonesian in outdoor media is increasingly worrying. This can be seen by the increasing number of Indonesian languages being transferred by foreign languages in public spaces. The Indonesians seem to be powerless in their own country and the substance of the Indonesians seems out of frame. By raising the case of the diversity of language use in outdoor media in the city of Palu, this study aims to describe patterns of diversity in language use, especially the use of foreign languages, regional languages, a mixture of Indonesian and foreign languages, as well as the full use of Indonesian in outdoor media in the city of Palu. The method used in this research is the listening method, the method used to obtain data by listening to the use of language that is in outdoor media in the city of Palu. The analysis shows that the pattern of diversity of language use in external media in the city of Palu is dominated by the use of foreign languages. Of the 280 data captured, 41% of outdoor media use foreign languages, mainly English. Furthermore, 34% of outdoor media use a mixture of Indonesian and foreign languages, 23% use Indonesian in full, and only 2% use local languages.keywords: language diversity, outdoor media

Abstract

 A speaker can influence the speech partner to do what is meant by the speaker. By raising the case of directive speech acts in the interaction of buying and selling in ManondaInpres Market, Palu city,the research aimed to describe the pattern and function of directive speech acts in interactions between sellers and buyers in InpresManonda Traditional Markets Palu City. The method used is a pragmatic approach with observation, recording, note taking and recording techniques, then analyzed based on the pattern of speech acts and functions. The findings based on the data analysisindicate that the form of directive speech acts in the interaction of buying and selling in InpresManonda Traditional Market, Palu City, namely inviting, ordering, banning, advising, giving advice, and asking. The directive speech acts function in buying and selling interactions in InpresManonda Market, Palu City, namely inviting, instructing, prohibiting, and asking. Abstrak Seorang penutur dapat memengaruhi mitra tuturnya untuk melakukan hal apa yang dimaksud oleh penutur. Dengan mengangkat kasus bentuk tindak tutur direktif dalam interaksi jual-beli di Pasar Inpres Manonda, Kota Palu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pola dan fungsi tindak tutur direktif dalam interaksi antara penjual dan pembeli di pasar tradisional Inpres Manonda, Kota Palu. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan prgamatik dengan teknik observasi, rekam, dan catat kemudian dianalisis berdasarkan pola bentuk dan fungsi tindak tutur. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa bentuk tindak tutur direktif dalam interaksi jual-beli di pasar tradisional Inpres Manonda, Kota Palu, yaitu mengajak, memerintah, melarang, menasihati, memberi saran, dan meminta. Abstract

Language choice is a common phenomena that occurs in multilingual societies. Indonesia people consist of various cultures, races, and ethnics and also various of languages which they used to communicated between their families and their societies. This research wants to find out the language choice of the Buginese ethnic infamily domain based on roles relation and education category in Donggala Regency. This research aims to (1)described the pattern language choice of the Buginese ethnic in family domain based on eduaction categoryand roles relation in Donggala Regency and (2) analyzed the factors language choice of the Buginense ethnicin family domain based on roles relation and education category in Donggala Regency. This research useda sociolinguistic approach method by quiestionnaire, interview, observation, recording technique, and thenanalyzed the data based on the percentage of language choice of the Buginese ethnic in family domain. Theresults showed that the Buginese ethnic in Donggala regency still dominant choose Bugis as a means ofcommunication in family domain based on roles relation and education category (82%), which is about 8%used Indonesian, 7% choose to mix Bugis and Indonesian, and only 3% used another languge, that is locallanguage, Dampal and Mandar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan pola pergeseran bahasa Kaili dan faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan pergeseran tersebut, dalam ranah keluarga oleh mahasiswa etnik Kaili di Universitas Tadulako Palu. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sosiolinguistik dengan teknik kuesioner, wawancara, dan pengamatan. Data dianalisis berdasarkan persentase pola penggunaan bahasa Kaili dalam ranah keluarga. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan bahasa Kaili oleh mahasiswa etnik Kaili di Unversitas Tadulako sudah bergeser ke penggunaan bahasa Indonesia. Faktor yang menyebabkan bergesernya bahasa Kaili ke dalam pemakaian bahasa Indonesia yaitu (1) faktor motivasi, (2) faktor kemaslahatan, (3) faktor kemajuan teknologi dan informasi, dan (4) sikap positif terhadap Bahasa Kaili sudah mulai luntur. Kata kunci: pergeseran bahasa, ranah keluarga, bahasa Kaili, hubungan peran Abstract This study tries to describe the pattern of Kaili shifting and the factors that caused, in the family domain by Kaili ethnic students at Tadulako University, Palu. This study uses sociolinguistic approach with questionnaire techniques, interviews, and examinations. Data were analyzed based on the pattern of use of the Kaili language in the family domain. The results of the analysis show that the use of the Kaili language by Kaili ethnic students at Tadulako University has shifted to the use of Indonesian. Factors that cause the shift of Kaili language into the use of Indonesian are (1) motivational factors, (2) benefit factors, (3) technological and information progress factors, and (4) positive attitudes towards Kaili language begin to fade.
