Abstract

Evaluation of hybrid resultedrom crossing ofMadura and oriental tobaccoProductivity and quality of tobacco could be improved by improving genetical traits through crossing Oiental tobacco was used as donor parent due to high number of leaves and aromatic that was able to enhanced the yield and quality of Madura tobacco. The exploits of heterosis in hybrid were expected to short cut the time of research The experiment was conducted in some villages i.e. [«bbek and Klompang Barat (District of Pamekasan). Por-dapor and Guluk-guluk (District of Sumenep) during 1997 season. The treatments consisted of four hybrids and Prancak-95 as the standard variety Hie purpose of the experiment was to find out the potency of hybrids and their improvement compared to Prancak-95. Sliced tobacco yields of all treatments were not different, except Ft Prancak-95x Ismir produced 0.701 Mia. closed to Prancak-95, i.e. 0.703 Mia Genotype x environment interaction affected on grade index, but this hybrid still the best one in Lebbek. K lompang Barat. and Por-dapor. Its standard heterosis was 43% while standard heterosis for crop index was 31.41%.

Abstract

The stability of yield and quality of the new lines of Temanggung tobaccoThe productivity of Temanggung tobacco is relatively low. One of the causes of the low productivity is genetic deterioration. Fom a series of selection, four lines were potential to be developed. Befoe the new varieties are released they need to be tested at different locations in a central poducing area. The tests were conducted at 1 1 locations in Temanggung District rom 1995 to 1997. The lines tested included four selected lines, original population of Temanggung tobacco.from which the selected lines were produced, and Kemloko, a local variety generally planted by farmers. The trial, were designed as a randomized block in three replicates for respective location. Results showed that two of four tested lines i.e. 2258/2/1/1 and 2132/2/2/1/1 produced stable yield and quality. Compared with Kemloko (local variety) the dry sliced tobacco, grade index and crop index of 2258/2/1/1 increased by 17.57, 6.85, and 26.88% respectively and those of 2132/2/2/1/1 increased by 12.28, 16.03, and 31.88% respectively.

Abstract

Resistance in Temanggung tobacco lines to tobacco aphid (Myzus persicae Sulzer)The evaluation on the esistance of Temanggung obacco lines against tobacco aphid was carried out in Malang, from August 19% to March 1997. The experiments consisted of antixenosis and antibiosis resistance. The teatments wee four tobacco lines fom the original population: (1) S.2258, (2) S.2132, (3) S.l%3, (4) S.1965; four lines rom selected population: (5) S.2258/2/1/1, (6) S.2132/2/2/1/1, (7) S.1%3/3/2/1/2/1, (8) S.1%5/2/1/2/1/1; one local line: (9) Kemloko (Gober genjah); two varieties resistant and susceptible o tobacco aphid: (10) Coker 176, and (11) NC95. The treatments wee arranged in randomized block design, with three replications. The esults showed that the two lines from the selection evaluation: S.2258/2/1/1 and S.1%3/3/2/1/2/1 wee resistant to tobacco aphid. Both lines had high density of leaf trichomes, and can be used as resistant resources in plant breeding activities.

Abstract

This expeiment was caried out at Palalang Village, Sub Pakong Distict, Pamekasan District, rom April to October 2000. There were 137 treatments, consisted of 100 FS lines [number 1 to 50 were progeny of Prancak-95 x IW (oriental), number 51 to 100 were progeny of Prancak-95 x IS (oiental)], 36 lines were selected from local cultivar, and Prancak-95 as a check variety. This experiment was arranged in randomized block design, two replications. The objective of this research was to select the promising lines based on crop index and nicotine content. Each lines were morphologically homogen, the potency of yield and quality among lines were significantly different. Foty-four lines were selected. They were resemble to Prancak-95, their nicotine content varied from 1.84% to 4.09%. Genotype and phenotype correlation between nicotine content and yield and grade index were not significantly different. There were 11 selected lines out of the 44 with crop index higher than that of Prancak-95, and their nicotine content vaied from 1.90 -3.96%.

Abstract

Four hybrids resulted from the first generation of the crossing of madura and oiental tobaccos and Prancak-95 aa a standard vaiety were tested at several locations from 1997 to 2000 randomized block design. The experiments aimed at obtaining promising hybid varieties of the madura tobacco. The yield potency, quality and stability of the hybrids were tested by using the method of yau and HAMBLIN (1994), which was based on lite highest average and the loweat standard deviation. Two promising hybrids, i.e. PIS and PXA had quality and crop indexes higher and had lower content of nicotine compared to that of Prancak 95, and they were more adaptive compared with Prancak-95. The quality indexes of PIS, PXA and Prancak-95 were respectively 79.30 ; 75.65 and 65.02.
