Abstract

The point of this study is the thought of Muhammad Abed al-Jabiri about the moral concept in Islam. Al-mashlahah, according to al-Jabiri, is the moral principle of Islam. Al-mashlahah represents the pure principle of Islamic ethics stemming from al-Qur’an and as-Sunnah. This theory based on the principle of utility; good and ugly determined by consequence of the act, non-action itself. Worthwhile action in al-mashlahah category must be relied on universal of syari’at (taking care of religion, soul, clan, properties, and mind). Al-mashlahah woke up above the principle of compatibility between mental activity and texts. Al-mashlahah does not characterizes secular and therefore can be made alternatively to Utilitarianism.

Abstract

This article will specifically examine Abid al-Jabiri’s renewal thoughts. The unique and important side of al- Jabiri’s thinking lies in the epistemological criticism carried out on the scientific building that developed in the middle of the Arab-Islamic civilization. Epistemological criticism becomes a realm of science that is not muchnoticed by Muslim thinkers in particular. Moreover, epistemology as part of philosophy has long been kept away from the scientific civilization of the Islamic world; studying philosophy is tantamount to plunging into the abyss of disbelief. At least, the epistemological criticism of al-Jabiri, offers the Islamic world an attempt to reconstruct a building of knowledge of reason to catch up, change the Islamic world towards the progress of civilization, and achieve modernity.Key words: Abid Al-Jabiri, Islamic Epistemolgy, Modernity

Abstract

All religion have different expressions in articulating the truth of their teachings. The differences occur not onlyamongst different religions, but also in school of thoughts, sects, and ideologies in the same religion. Thismeans that the use of religious language amongst the groups is not necessarily lead to one goal and to thesame meaning. This paper aims to examine the use of religious language from the perspective of its usageusing ordinary language philosophy approach (language philosophy) or more specifically known as languagegames intiated by the Austrian-born philosopher Ludwig Josef Johann Wittgenstein (1889). Such study is veryimportant to compenstate for current analysis which tends to be empirical-positivistic. This trend emphasizesthe pragmatic aspects of the language than the grammatical aspect. Thus, in the context of religious language,one the same language of riligous language is used not for one purpose only. This means that there is no onlyone way for religious sentences to gain the meaning, but it can discribe some realities depending on the users.Key Word: Language, Bahasa Agama, Makna AbstrakSemua agama memiliki ekspresi berbeda dalam mengartikulasikan kebenaran ajarannya. Cara pengungkapanyang berbeda ini bahkan tidak hanya terjadi antar-agama yang berbeda, tetapi terjadi juga dalam aliran,mazhab, dan ideology dalam satu agama yang sama. Artinya bahwa penggunaan bahasa agama antarkelompokbelum tentu megarah pada satu sasaran makna yang sama. Tulisan ini bertujuan mengkaji bahasaagama dari perspektif penggunaannya melalui pendekatan filsafat bahasa biasa (language philosophy) ataulebih spesifik dikenal dengan language games yang digagas oleh filsuf kelahiran Austria, Ludwig Josef JohannWittgenstein (1889). Studi semacam ini dipandang sangat penting guna mengimbangi analisis yang selama inicenderung empiris-positivistik. Kecenderungan ini menekankan bahasa pada aspek pragmatic daripada aspekgramatikalnya. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan dalam konteks bahasa agama, bahwa satu bahasa yangsama dari bahasa agama dipakai tidak hanya untuk satu tujuan saja. Ini artinya bahwa pernyataan-pernyataanagama tidak mendapatkan maknanya dengan satu cara saja, tetapi bisa menggambarkan beberapa relaitasmenurut aturan main si pemakainya.Kata Kunci: Language, Bahasa Agama, Makna

Abstract

Abstract Al-Ghazali was a complete Muslim thinker. His thinking included almost all the discipline of knowledge from theology, fiqh, philosophy, mysticism, to education. This study attempts to explore the ideas of al-Ghazali in mapping science according to its hierarchy in this application of life, as well as explicitly the practice of learning in the world of education (Islam). He divided the science on three global scales by way of epistemologists, ontologists and axiologists approaches. This classification is then translated into four classification systems. First, it cascades its sciences into a theoretical and practical science. Second, huduri knowledge and husuli knowledge. Third, religious (Syari'ah) and rational ('aqliyah), and fourth fard 'ain (compulsory over each individual) and fard kifayah (compulsory over people). From this hierarchy of al-Ghazali's hierarchy also reveals the value of science, which was briefly embodied in mahmudah (good), madzmumah (reprehensible), and neutral-sometimes praiseworthy, sometimes reprehensible, depending on the circumstances and conditions of the background. Abstract

Known as devout muslims have not made Maduras people intolerant to other religious people. The tolerance of Madura people toward members of other faiths is evidenced by the fact that all religions in Madura, such as Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucius and Catholicism are safe and thriving in Madura. A manifestation of tolerance in Madura is evidenced in the harmonizing of three different religious communities in the village of Pabian Sumenep. The study will explain a model of Muslim tolerance at the Klinik Sang Timur Pabian Sumenep. What are the factors that underlie the establishment of cooperation tolerance of Muslim-Christian at the Klinik Sang Timur Pabian Sumenep. The study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques of library research, observation, interviews, and documentation. Theory relevant to researchers is the study of the meaning of action. The conclusion of the study is this: Tolerance that takes place in the Klinik Sang Timur is not a indifferent, compassion and pity. Tolerance in the practice of Klinik Sang Timur is the majority tolerance for a minority belonging to be part of community together. Tolerance in the Klinik Sang Timur is categorized in the post level of tolerance that not only forms mutual respect but savoring other ethical principles as a valuable choice. Tolerance at the Klinik Sang Timur stems from the tradtion and local wisdom which are firmly rooted.
