Abstract

Abstract. The Akhlakul Kharimah Orphanage is one of the orphanages in the city of Malang which has a large number of orphans and underprivileged children from Malang, Banyuwangi, Jember and other regions in Java. This activity is one way to empower orphanage children of Akhlakul Kharimah. Training activities to make pots from towels and pozzolan is one of the alternatives offered to empower the potential and increase the creativity of the orphanage children of Akhlakul Kharimah. This activity consists of two methods: counseling-demonstration and practice methods. Counseling and demonstration methods are carried out by explaining the development of creativity in utilizing used towels into pots and showing the stages of making pots from used towels and natural pozzolan. Whereas in the practice method, the orphanage children do the practice directly of making pots up to coloring. This activity received a positive response from the orphanage children as indicated by the participation of almost 90%. More than 85% of the pots produced have good characteristics. These pots were used for the cultivation of ornamental plants, vegetables (tomatoes and chilies) and fruits (strawberries).

Abstract

Interfacial polymerization of polyamide was conducted using hydrophobic and hydrophilic membrane support. The effects of monomer concentration were investigated, and the resulting thin-film composite membranes were tested for their performance in dye removal using different flow configurations. The results showed that a dense polyamide layer was successfully formed on the hydrophilic support, while a polyamide layer with a very loose structure was formed on the hydrophobic support. The polyamide layer became smoother and more hydrophilic as the concentration of trimesoyl chloride was increased, leading to increased permeate flux and reduced dye rejection. The highest sunset yellow rejection of 45.7% with a permeate flux of 4.9 L/m2.h was obtained when the polyamide layer was formed from trimesoyl chloride concentration of 0.05 w/v% (a high amine to acid chloride monomer ratio of 20) and the filtration was in cross-flow configuration.
