Abstract

The research is aimed at discovering the ability of STBA-PIA Second Year Students 2017/2018 Academic Year in using the Chinese Adverb “Tongchang通常” and “Changchang 常常”. This research uses a descriptive quantitive design method with a total population of 67 students. As the total population is under 100, the whole students are taken as the research sample. Students’ ability in using both Chinese Adverbs “Tongchang通常” and “Changchang 常常” is measured by using the test in which is the research instrument. The validity and reliability of the research instrument are examined by using content validity and internal reliability. Internal reliability is examined by using Kuder Richardson 20 formula. The reliability of the instrument shows the coefficient of 0.618 in which may be interpreted as quite a strong value. After passing the reliability score, the instrument is given a test to students. The result of the test is the ability of STBA-PIA second-year students in using the Chinese Adverb “Tongchang通常” and “Changchang常常” can be categorized as quite competent as 61.18% of students reach the average score of 74.72 for “Tongchang通常”  and 63.18% of students reach the average score of 72.04 for “Changchang 常常”.Keywords: Cognitive Ability, Chinese Adverb, 通常 (tongchang), 常常 (changchang).

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to understand the error types and the error causes of Sekolah Tinggi Bahasa Asing Persahabatan Internasional Asia (STBA-PIA) second year students in using the Chinese words “Qiwang期望” and “Yuanwang愿望”. The design of this research is a descriptive qualitative and using both elicitation and interview methods for data collection. Picture description and  elicited imitation methods are applied as the instruments used for describing the error types in using the Chinese words “Qiwang期望” and “Yuanwang愿望”, while interview method is used in defining the causes of errors occurred in using the Chinese words “Qiwang期望” and “Yuanwang愿望”. The results of this study show that there are four types of errors occured in using Chinese words “Qiwang期望” and “Yuanwang愿望” by STBA-PIA second year students which are error of addition (14.6%), error of substitution (66.5%), error of order (12.6%) and error of omission (6.3%). The results also show that there are two types of error causes, they are interlingual transfer (51.7%) and intralingual transfer (48.3%) in which  the intralingual transfer includes the overgeneralization (17.2%), ignore of rule restriction (13.8%), incomplete application of rules (10.3%) and false concept hypothesized (7%).Keywords: Error, Chinese Word, 期望(qiwang), 愿望(yuanwang)

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to reveal the forms of ancient, modern and contemporary poetry in expressing social problems and the reasons for the expressions of social criticism. The design of this research is a descriptive qualitative. The objects of the research are the forms of expression towards social criticism and the reasons behind them which are found in the ancient Tang poetry “Zi Jing Fu Feng Xian Xian Yong Huai Wu Bai Zi自京赴奉先县咏怀五百字”, the modern poetry “Da Yan He Wo - De Bao大堰河——我的保姆”, and the contemporary poetry “Xiang Chou乡愁”. The results of the research show that there are 26 forms of expression of social criticism in the three poems, including 13 straightforward social criticism (50%), 6 symbolic social criticism (23.08%), 2 cynical social criticism (7.69%) and 5 explanatory social criticism (19.23%). There are three reasons for the expressions of social criticism: (1) the historical aspect (national administration), (2) psychological aspect (sharpening the author's expression attitude), and (3) imagery.Key Words: Social Criticism, Expressions Form, Poem
