Abstract

This research traces the genealogy of the wabah (pandemic) in Dewi Sekardadu's stories. Dewi Sekardadu’s story in this study is taken from the Javanese writing tradition. This paper aim to describe the origin of the wabah in the story (Dewi Sekardadu) and the power relations of knowledge in Java from the point of view of origin and meaning. The theory used is triangulation folklore theory, comparative literature and archo-genealogy of knowledge. The results were (1) almost all Javanese chronicles or chronicles always included Dewi Sekardadu's story because it was always mentioned in the stories of Maulana Ishak or Seh Wali Lanang and Sunan Giri; (2) the position and causes of the wabah in Dewi Sekardadu's storyline in the old writing tradition varied depending on the writing period; and (3) the genealogy of the wabah in Dewi Sekardadu's stories can be traced to several previous Javanese sources or literature, namely the stories of prophets, guardians, and pre-Islamic treasures in Java.

Abstract

This paper reveals historical aspect of villages in Serat Sindujoyo. This manuscript is old manuscript which contains traditional Javanese history. There are mystical and historical aspect in it, although it does not discuss about Javanese kings history and sovereign as power legitimacy and the central cities of the kingdom to affirm central of power, instead tells the story of people's journey. This manuscript is codex unicus. The study uses three teories; phyology, history, and deconstruction approach. With focus on historical aspect and understanding the unique of traditional history through considerating with another history sources and literatures, noted that time period of Sindujoyo's life and historical aspect of Sindujoyo who builds villages in north coast of Gresik and another villages along the conflict that occured in several capital cities. Etnocultural content of Serat Sindujoyo reveals history of people's mentality in coastal village at Sindujoyo's period and their development as coastal villages with their characteristic. --- Kajian ini mengungkap kesejarahan desa-desa pesisir dalam Serat Sindujoyo. Serat ini merupakan naskah kuno pesisir yang mengandung historiografi Jawa tradisional. Di dalamnya terdapat aspek mitis dan historis meskipun tidak berbicara tentang sejarah raja-raja dan penguasa sebagai alat legitimasi kekuasaan dan kota-kota pusat kerajaan untuk meneguhkan sentral kekuasaan, alih-alih mengisahkan perjalanan hidup orang biasa dan pendirian beberapa desa. Naskah ini termasuk naskah tunggal. Kajian menggunakan tiga teori, yaitu filologi, sejarah, dan dekonstruksi. Dengan bertumpu pada aspek historis dan pemahaman pada kekhasan historiografi tradional lewat perbandingan dengan sumber sejarah lainnya dan literatur sejarah, diketahui kisaran waktu semasa hidup Sindujoyo dan kesejarahan Sindujoyo mendirikan desa-desa di pesisir utara Gresik dan beberapa desa lainnya seiring kancah konflik beberapa pusat kekuasaan. Kandungan etnokultural Serat Sindujoyo dapat menguak sejarah mentalitas masyarakat pesisir pada masa Sindujoyo hidup dan perkembangannya sebagai desa nelayan dengan ciri khas pesisiran.
