Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition of an increase in blood pressure from the normal range of 120/80 mmHg. If there is no action is taken to reduce blood pressure, it can lead to serious complications. Jacobson’s progressive muscle relaxation can be used as an action in reducing high blood pressure. Aims of this study is to analize effect of Jacobson’s progressive muscle relaxation to decrease blood pressure. Methods: This research used a quasi-experimental method and a sample of 16 respondents. JPMR Therapy is carried out for three weeks with three times each week. The action is carried out for 30 minutes. Blood pressure measured by spyghnomanometer before and after intervention. Results: the result of this intervention showed a P-Value is 0,0001, which means blood pressure decreases after intervention. Conclusions: This intervention is proven to be a complementary therapy for hypertension suffers. For this intervention to have the maximum results for blood pressure reduction, patients must routinely intervene every day along with the ingestion of the drug. The need for more research is how long normal blood pressure persists with JPMR.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a serious health problem that is increasing every year. Lifestyle changes such as lack of movement become one of the factors developing this disease. This study was conducted to see the effectiveness gripping exercise of handgrip tool on changes in blood pressure in hypertension patients. Methods: The study used a method of quasi experiment pre and post test with one intervention group. This interventions was given to 16 adult respondents for 5 consecutive days. Assessment of the effectiveness of this therapy is done by measuring the respondent's blood pressure before and after the intervention. Results: The results showed that there was effectiveness gripping exercise of handgrip tool in on systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure (p-value <0.05). So, gripping exercise of handgrip tool intervention can lower blood pressure in people with hypertension. Conclutions: The effectiveness of this therapy must also be done in conjunction with maintaining a lifestyle and regularly taking antihypertensive medication.

Abstract

Background: Elderly as a group at risk of susceptible to health problems due to physiological decline in the body, one of them is diabetes mellitus type 2. Elderly diabetes mellitus type 2 requires good management both pharmacologically and non pharmacologically. Non-pharmacological management that can control blood glucose levels in the elderly is autogenic relaxation therapy with lavender aromatherapy. Autogenic relaxation is mind body therapy that focuses on heart rate and breath regulation. Aromatherapy lavender is a therapy that uses essential oils that can calm the mind. This scientific work aims to analyze effect of combination therapy of autogenic relaxation and lavender aromatherapy to amount blood sugar in elderly people with diabetes mellitus type 2. Methods: This study used a quasi experimental pre test and post test method without control group. Sampling using a purposive sampling method of 16 respondents. Therapy is done 2 times a day for 15 minutes in each session within 30 days with 10 meetings and blood glucose checks. The analysis test used the paired T-Test. Results: The results of the Paired T-Test statistical test showed a significant decrease in average blood glucose levels of 83.75 mg/dL with a value of p = 0.000. Conclusion: Combination therapy of autogenic relaxation and lavenderaromatherapy are effective for reducing blood glucose levels. Therefore, it is expected that the elderly with diabetes mellitus type 2 can perform autogenic relaxation therapy and lavender aromatherapy routinely so that blood glucose levels can decrease.
