Abstract

Changing status, both the changing institutional status of a college into the institute and the institute into a university, happening in the state Islamic Higher Education (PTAIN) in Indonesia now is being a new hope for the education quality improvement. Its implication requires the changes both in terms of mindset, paradigm, human resources, infrastructure and facilities, costs, as well as culture which needs a relatively long time if nothing is done to speed up the organization learning process. One of the ways how to speed up the organization learning process is through what so-called Learning Organization (LO). LO is characterized by a movement performed by all individuals in the organization to develop their personal capacity in order to improve their best performance. However, the efforts of developing the organization are often not supported by a manager who is able to translate the vision of the leadership. That is why, the idea of idealism is still becoming a lip service. It means that it has not become a structured and systematic action which actually can accelerate the development for the better organization if it is ultimately done. The biggest problem in conducting the LO is in term of mindset change and quality culture. The strength of the organization lies in the capability of the organization to learn fast. This research found out that the organization can learn because of the encouragement of the leaders and individual that are very critical to determine its success. Keywords: Learning Organization, Change, Leadership, Culture.

This study uses qualitative approach with field research type. Strategies to guarantee the quality of graduates done through tight assessment, provision of extra programs that can improve the students' academic quality, continuous assessment, and the students’ scientific work must be written in either English or Arabic. Excellence program has a positive impact either on students who want to continue to pursue higher education or students who choose to work. The graduates of excellence programs are proven to have tough mentality as well as high work ethics.

Inadequate understanding and different perspectives of Islamic higher education (PTKIN) in Indonesia particularly the graduate schools towards Multidisciplinary, Interdisciplinary, and Transdisciplinary (MIT) approaches result in ineffective implementation of Indonesian National Qualification Framework/Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia (KKNI) curriculum. Yet, MIT approach is highly needed to accelerate state development. MIT study has integrated character which opens to new developments of science and methodology and will possibly create new knowledge hybrids. This research investigated MIT learning strategy and approach at graduate schools of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, and UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. The policy of MIT learning aims to enable the learning process at graduate schools to produce new comprehensive discoveries on science and humanities. Based on a qualitative research method, this showed that the graduate schools had different MIT approach and strategy in learning and this was greatly influenced by lecturer’s and decision maker’s paradigms. MIT approach was chosen respond to the nature of science, realize very complex issues, synergize various disciplines of sciences, motivate multi-sector expert collaboration, and produce new products. In short, MIT practices mean collaboration and synergy among involving people either experts with non-experts or academic with non-academic staff.

Abstract

Students' difficulty in understanding English language as a subject usually leads to poor learning outcomes. The problem is, however, observed to be getting worse due to the unavailability of suitable learning media for educators and students. This research was, therefore, conducted to develop an English for Beginner pocketbook media to improve student learning outcomes. Meanwhile, pocketbook media is an alternative packaging of information through the use of user efficiency elements. This research was developed based on the Borg & Gall model with the data collected using questionnaires, tests, and documentation and analyzed through Independent Sample T-test. The results showed the sig. (2-tailed) < sig. level (0,000 < 0.05), therefore, Ha was accepted while H0 was rejected. It was discovered that average students learning outcomes increased to 83,4 and learning completeness by 83.33% after receiving the treatment in the form of the English for Beginner pocketbook media. This shows this material is feasible to be implemented as a learning medium due to its effectiveness in improving the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students of MI Masaran 1 Trenggalek.

However, there are distinctive characteristics in developing scientific knowledge based on the vision and core values of each institution; (3) the strategy of integrating the spirit of Walisongo is reflected in evaluating aspects: (a) institutions, by building interconnections, tag line or owner’s quote, piety bureaucracy (clean and clear), (b) human resources development, and (c) academic integration through Islamic subject with science and technology, halal laboratories, and Islamic law.
