Abstract

The end of municipal solid waste operations is landfill. Almost all of the Indonesia city’s landfills use the open dumping system. Generally, wastes dumped in the landfill are dominated by organic materials that potentially used for cow feeding. So that, in some landfills there are cow pasturing with the low cost operation related to the free feeding materials. According to UU No 18/2008, in the year of 2013 open dumping landfill is prohibited operate changed by sanitary landfill. Related to this change, the cow pasturingin landfill will be affected. So that the cow pasturing in landfill need to be assessed in the aspect of waste reduction, economic values, landfill operation, social conflict, and safety cow meat. The goals of this study are assessing positive and negative impacts from cow pasturing in the Piyungan Landfill, Yogjakarta. Research methods used are references study, interview, counting the cow and direct investigation of landfill operation. This study concluded that cow pasturing in landfill has positive impacts for waste reductionand increasing economic level of people live in surrounds of landfill. Unfortunately, the cow pasturing has also negative impact such as disturbing daily landfill operation, high potent social conflict during landfill rehabilitation, and high content of some heavy metals in the cow organ. Based on those impacts, the policy of the cow pasturing has to be reviewed because of the importance of sanitary landfill operation in the near future andthe issue of safely consuming meat free from heavy metals.Key Words: landfill, waste, cow pasturing

Abstract

The large scale composting activity needs mechanical equipments foroperational efficiency like The Cakung Slaughterhouse has been done.Installation of mechanical equipments and buildings make it costly compare tomanual composting activities. The cost of mechanical composting need to becounted such as investment, operation and maintenance cost in order to getthe specific cost of compost production. This can be used for pricing compostproduct. According to the analysis, the best pricing for compost product is morethan Rp. 807/kg, for example Rp. 1000/kg compost. It means that CakungSlaughterhouse need increase gradually the existing compost price from Rp.500/kg to Rp. 1000/kg compost. It need for guarantying for sustainable compostproduction.Key Words: Slaughterhouse, mechanical compost, specific cost

Abstract

Abstract

The increase in waste generation is a major problem especially for urban areas such as Jakarta with insufficient landfill capacity and an inefficient and environmentally sound waste management system. To produce an optimal, integrated and sustainable landfill management strategy, an analysis of the TPST Bantargebang waste management system is then formulated towards optimization of sustainable landfill management in environmental, financial, and social aspects through a system dynamics intervention scenario model of the TPST Bantargebang waste management system. Based on the descriptive analysis carried out on the latest waste management, 3 main issues are known, namely, landfill capacity almost fully occupied, methane gas emissions increment, and the possibility waste pickers integration to increase scavenging productivity. Simulations were carried out with a system dynamics model for the 2018-2023 period with BAU conditions and an intervention scenario with a reduction in landfill waste and a reduction in waste flow. The results of the scenario are: landfill can still be utilized until 2023; methane gas emissions decreased by an average of 23,50%; the increase in the Scavenger Production Ratio to the Landfill Waste Rate reached 134,58%. As a consequence of the intervention and the addition of waste treatment activities in the TPST Bantargebang, the operational cost per ton has increased up to 309,62%. This study concludes that the scenario of incoming waste reduction and existing landfill waste reduction planned by Material Recovery Facility (MRF) construction with scavenger involvement, compost processing efficiency improvement, construction of Waste to Energy (WtE) facilities in the form of incinerator, landfill mining, and reprofiling simultaneously.
