Abstract

In vibration measurements, integration process is often performed to acceleration as well as velocity signals. This integration process is usually done numerically in DSA (Dynamic Signal Analyzer) so that the result of integration has error with respect to the true (theoretical) value. Therefore, development of numerical integration methods with cutoff frequency are presented in this paper. This development produces equations which can reduce the influence of noise with respect to the result of numerical integration. Furthermore, these equations are validated with the simulation and experiment results. Base on the validation results, it can be concluded that the equations which have been derrived are correct.

Abstract

This paper describes the use of jerk signal, a signal obtained from differentiation of the acceleration signal with respect to time, for detecting the early damage of a bearing and bad lubrication conditions. The use of jerk signal is expected to result more sensitive detection than that obtain using acceleration signal. To prove this hypothesis, this paper shows the results of vibration measurement for needle bearings and taper roller bearings with variation of load level, types of bearing damage, and lubrication condition. Comparisons of acceleration and jerk signals are performed in both time domain, by comparing their RMS values, as well as in frequency domain, by comparing their spectrums. The results of the experiment show that the use of jerk signal can give a more sensitive result in detecting bearing damage than that produced using acceleration signal. Moreover, the use of jerk signal can lead to better results in detecting bad lubrication of rolling bearing than that obtain using Crest Factor (CF) value.

Abstract

This paper presents development of electric motor speed control system for railway vehicle roller test rig. For maneuver flexibility reason, each must be independently controlled, and consequently, must be precisely controlled to prevent excessive yaw motion of the vehicle. To fulfill this requirement, a control system is built on a 3:10 scaled single roller rig which is driven by a low-cost motor, i.e., AC induction motor. The scale implies acceleration requirement as 1.1 m/s2 and targeted speed as 2000 RPM. The system adopts PID control strategy with Ziegler-Nichols as its tuning method. As a result, the system yields settling time as 12.42 second with steady-state error of 0.75% when the system is being subjected to a step function input. Additionally, the system manages to reject disturbance which is proven by its ability to recover its speed once an amount of disturbance torque is applied. The findings indicate that AC induction motors with PID control strategy offers considerable speed performance over AC servo motors, which are typically much more costly. These findings indicate that AC induction motors with a PID control strategy offer considerable speed performance, making them a viable, cost-effective alternative to the typically more expensive AC servo motors. Moreover, the results have been validated against the roller-rig's operational conditions, confirming that the system meets the required performance criteria.

Abstract

Solar energy is a promising source of energy because of its potential due to the reduction usage of non-renewable energy. As the demand for cooling increases, solar-powered cooling technologies are becoming increasingly promising. Among the different solar cooling systems, LiBr-H2O absorption chillers are commonly used due to their advantages over NH3-H2O systems. Multiple cycle LiBr-H2O chillers can be powered by easily available flat-plate, evacuated tubular or parabolic solar collectors. This paper reviews Theoretical Principles-Based Analysis and Simulations of solar LiBr-H2O absorption cooling systems, performance comparison of each types and introduces new design options related to auxiliary energy systems and cooling mode cycle. The paper also summarizes other main types of solar absorption cooling systems, including double-effect, half-effect, triple effect and give updates of new technology design of hybrid effect. The choice of water-cooled or air-cooled absorption refrigeration depends on the local climate and water availability. Recent advances have made air-cooled absorption refrigeration a viable option, with comparable COP to water-cooled systems and lower maintenance requirements. Additionally, geothermal heat rejection with low pressure drops can further reduce energy consumption. Solar-powered double-effect absorption cooling systems are recommended for buildings with high cooling loads, while half-effect are suitable for air-cooled solar absorption cooling systems in hot and dry regions with limited water. This paper is specifically intended for those interested in developing solar-driven LiBr-H2O absorption chillers, emphasizing the importance of establishing standardized design guidelines to specific regions and climates in order to promote and expand the usage of solar cooling systems.
