Abstract

Background: Security guard often experience sleep disturbances, especially insomnia due to the changing of sleep pattern. This sleep disturbance causes a decrease sleep quality on security guard. Exercise can prevent the decrease of sleep quality. This research aimed to determine the correlation between exercise and sleep quality of banks security guard in Surakarta. Methods: This was an observational analytic research with crosssectional design, which was held on November 2014 with security guard at Surakarta as the research subjects. Sampling method used simple random sampling. The dependent variable was sleep quality which was measured by questionnaire. The independent variable was exercise. The variable was measured by time accumulation of exercise in a week. It was categorized into exercise (?150 minutes/week) and non exercise (<150 minutes/week). Thirty eight research subjects was analyzed using Spearman correlation test. Result: The Spearman correlation test analysis showed a statistically significant strong correlation between exercise and sleep quality. Exercise had contribution 44.9% to improved sleep quality (R= 0.67; R2= 0.44; p=0.000). Conclusion: Exercise has strong positive correlation with sleep quality of bank security guard. Security officers who do exercise have better sleep quality. Key Words: Security guard, Sleep quality, Exercise.

Abstract

Backgrounds: Recently, many teenagers have an irregular menstruation periods. Physical activity is one of the risk factor that increase the incidence of menstruation periods irregularity. High Schools students had a lot of variation in daily physical activities. This research aimed to determine the correlation between physical activity and the menstrual cycle in adolescents at Warga High School Surakarta. Methods: This research used descriptive analytical study by the cross sectional design. The subject of the research were female students of X and XI grade at Warga High School in Surakarta that taken by purposive random sampling technique. Independent variable of this research was physical activity which was measured by International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Dependent variable of this research was menstruation cycle which was measured by menstruation cycle questionnaire. The size of the sample were 90 female students who were divided into 3 group based on their intensity of physical activities. These 3 groups were divided again based on their menstruation cycle. The collected data were analysed with Chi Square formula and Coeffisient Contiquenency (CC). Results: The result of Chi Square analysis was 0,037 as p value and the value of Q was 0.261 . Conclusions: There was correlation between physical activity and menstruation cycle in adolescents at Warga Senior High Schools Surakarta but the correlation between these two variables was less closely related.
