Abstract

This study attemps to describe the language use or stylistics of short stories “Mata yang Enak dipandang written by Ahmad Tohari. The way Tohari expresses his ideas can be seen from his choice of lexicalitems, and sentence constructions. He uses metaphore, simile, personification, tautology, hyperbole, climax, anticlimax, repetition, paradox, and nature words, rhetorical sentences, polisindeton, andasindenton in order to emphasize his ideas, to emerge a wholeherated impression, and to attract reader’s interet. Syntatically, he uses both short and long sentences. They are combined to avoid a monotonous impression.Kata Kunci: Gaya bahasa, Mata Yang Enak Dipandang, Stilistika

Dewasa  ini,  perkembangan  internet  begitu  cepat.  Agar  bisa  mengimbanginya Universitas Muria  Kudus  (UMK)  membuat  website  dengan  nama  www.umk.ac.idyang  memilikiversi Indonesia  dan  lnggris.Tujuan  dari  riset  ini  adalah  untuk  mengetahui jenis-jeniskesalahan danpenyebabkesalahandiversi  lnggriswebsiteUMKpadaJuni2011.  Penulismenemukan8 beritapada  bulanJuni  2011.Penulis  menggunakan teori Corder  untuk  menganalisa  berita dengan  mengumpulkandata,mengidentifikasikesalahan,menjabarkankesalahan, menjelaskankesalahandan  mengevaluasi. Abstract

Writing ability is a skill that must be mastered by students. One of the media can be applied in teaching writing is TV Newscast. The objective of this research is to find out whether the writing ability of the eleventh-grade students of SMKN 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year after being taught by using TV newscast is better than before. This study is experimental research; in this research, the writer used one group pre-test post-test design. There are two variables; they are TV newscast (independent variable) and the students' writing ability (dependent variable). The population of the research is the eleventh-grade students of SMKN 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year. The writer used random cluster sampling as the technique to take the sample. Then XI AK 1 (accountancy class) consists of 38 students was taken. The research used achievement test as instrument for measuring the students' writing ability before and after being taught by using TV newscast and then the data were analyzed using the statistical formula. Based on the result of this research, the t0 (obtained) was higher than t-critical (20.091.56). It showed that t0 (obtained) on the critical area and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Then the conclusion is that the writing ability of the eleventh-grade students of State Vocational School 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year after being taught by using TV newscast is significant.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi identitas akademik dan kapital manusia mahasiswa doktor yang terkait dengan cara mereka mengembangkan karier akademiknya setelah lulus, dan saat kembali bekerja di perguruan tinggi. Kerangka teori yang digunakan dalam kajian ini teori praktisi dan teori kapital. Metode penelitian kualitatif dengan analisis tematik reflektif digunakan untuk mendapatkan pemahaman yang mendalam tentang identitas akademik dan kapital dari partisipan penelitian. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa persepsi mahasiswa program doktoral tentang studi program doktoral adalah pendidikan doktoral dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan, keterampilan profesional mereka, terutama terkait dengan penelitian dan publikasi jurnal internasional. Dengan kemampuan tersebut mereka dapat meningkatkan kapital manusia dan identitas akademik. Begitu juga, mereka akan memiliki banyak kesempatan untuk pengembangan karier akademik di perguruan tinggi. Dengan demikian, kapital manusia dan identitas akademik sangat bernilai dan penting untuk pencapaian karier akademik mahasiswa program doktor pada masa depan.

Abstract

Since face-to-face classrooms are shifted to online classes, the assessment which is a part of the teaching-learning process is also virtually conducted. This study aims to describe the online assessment tools utilized by teachers when giving online assessments to their students. Moreover, it also investigates the challenges faced by teachers in the implementation of online assessment as well as the solution to respond to those issues. This is a qualitative research design using open-ended questionnaires as the instrument of the research. The participants were 25 teachers from primary schools, junior high schools, and senior high schools in Central Java province Indonesia. The findings of the research show that teachers from elementary schools to senior high schools use a range of online assessment tools when giving their students online evaluations such as Google Forms, WhatsApp, Quippier, Quizzes, and Microsoft Team. When giving online assessments, several difficulties are encountered by teachers at all levels, including poor internet access, academic dishonesty, students’ discipline, and the lack of mobile phones. Teachers have done various actions in response to such problems. For instance, changing the questions from objective to subjective ones, providing internet access, encouraging students to submit their work on time, and visiting the students at home to lend them mobile phones to do assessments if they do not have one.

Abstract

Translation has a crucial role in human life. It is viewed in different ways recently and theories of translation are more focused on factors that influence translators’ decision making.  Despite the importance of the ideology in translation, there is lack of research in this area, especially on literary translation.  This research tries to investigate the lexical choice in order to determine the ideology of the translator on literary translation. The researcher applied Fairclough approach focusing on experiential values; namely Classification Schemes and Ideological contested words which depict the text producer’s experience of the natural and social world. The result showed that lexical choices and manipulation were made due to linguistic and cultural differences. The translators selected similar vocabularies for representing the ideology of the original author. The translator also selected various translation strategies to make a meaning equivalent. They are phonological translation, borrowing, generalization, descriptive technique, contextual conditioning, cultural equivalent, and literal translation.
