<![CDATA[The purpose of this reseach is to elaborate the description of the settings in the novel of Hujan by Tere Liye and to design its learning in senior high schools. The results showed that the setting description in the novel uses three approaches, namely realistic, impressionistic, and based on the author’s attitude. Moreover, it uses diction and figures of speech to describe the settings. The dictions used are denotation and connotation, euphemism, genetic and specific, as well as figuratively used are simile and personification. Based on these findings, researchers compiled a learning plan for grade XII of semester II students with basic competencies 3.9 Analyze the content and language of the novel. The purpose of the learning is after reading the settings description with three approaches, the students are able to analyze the settings description correctly.Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menjelaskan deskripsi latar dalam novel Hujan karya Tere Liye dan merancang pembelajarannya di SMA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa deskripsi latar dalam novel tersebut menggunakan tiga pendekatan, yaitu pendekatan realistis, impresionistis, dan menurut sikap penulis, serta menggunakan diksi dan kiasan untuk mendeskripsikan latarnya. Diksi yang digunakan adalah denotasi dan konotasi, eufemisme, genetik dan spesifik, serta kiasan berupa simile dan personifikasi. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, peneliti menyusun rancangan pembelajarannya untuk siswa kelas XII semester II dengan kompetensi dasar 3.9 Menganalisis isi dan kebahasaan novel.
