Abstract

Finger eggplant is a valuable fruit vegetable that is highly sought by the Indonesian population. Unfortunately, its production has been declining annually due to diminishing soil fertility. To address this issue, it is essential to enhance the soil's physical, chemical, and biological properties to boost both finger eggplant production and soil productivity. This can be achieved by applying liquid organic fertilizer made from pineapple skin, combined with Azolla pinnata and NPK fertilizer. The objective of this study is to evaluate the interaction and individual effects of pineapple skin liquid organic fertilizer (POC) with Azolla pinnata and NPK on the growth and yield of finger eggplant (Solanum melongena L.). The research took place at the Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture at Riau Islamic University in Pekanbaru, running from June to September 2024. A factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed, featuring two factors. The first factor involved varying levels of pineapple skin POC with Azolla pinnata, specifically 0, 50, 150, and 250 ml per liter of water. The second factor consisted of four levels of NPK fertilizer: 0, 10, 20, and 30 g per plant, resulting in 16 treatment combinations with three replications, yielding a total of 48 experimental units. The parameters measured included plant height, flowering age, harvest age, number of fruits per plant, total fruit weight per plant, weight per fruit, and number of remaining fruits. The collected data were analyzed statistically, followed by further BNJ tests at the 5% significance level. The findings revealed that the interaction between pineapple skin POC, Azolla pinnata, and NPK fertilizer (15:9:20) significantly influenced several parameters, including plant height, flowering age, harvest age, number of fruits per plant, total fruit weight per plant, weight per fruit, and number of remaining fruits. The optimal treatment was identified as the combination of pineapple skin POC with Azolla pinnata at 250 ml per liter of water and NPK fertilizer at 30 g per plant. In conclusion, the study indicates that using pineapple skin POC combined with Azolla pinnata at a concentration of 250 ml per liter of water, along with 30 g of NPK fertilizer per plant, can effectively enhance finger eggplant production. Additionally, it is recommended to increase the phosphorus content in the NPK fertilizer for more optimal growth of the eggplant plants.

Abstract

The research entitled Multiplication of Orchid Dendrobium sp. by Giving GRS Zeatin and IAA (Indole Acetic Acid) In Vitro was carried out at the Biotechnology Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Islamic University of Riau, Pekanbaru City. The research was conducted over three months, from December 2022 to February 2023. This study aimed to obtain a combination of Zeatin and IAA (Indole Acetic Acid) concentrations that had the best effect on the growth of Dendrobium orchid explants in tissue culture. The design used in this study was a factorial experiment in a completely randomized design (CRD), consisting of two factors and three replications. The first factor was Zeatin (Z) at concentrations of 0, 2.0, 4.0, and 6.0 ppm, while the second factor was IAA at concentrations of 0, 0.5, 1, and 1.5 ppm. Parameters observed were explant survival (%), shoot age (days), root age (days), number of shoots (fruits), number of roots (fruits), shoot length (cm), and root length (cm). The observational data were analyzed statistically, and the BNJ follow-up test was conducted at the 5% level. The results showed that the interaction between Zeatin and IAA had a significant effect on shoot age, root age, number of shoots, number of roots, shoot length, and root length, with the best concentrations being Zeatin (6 ppm) and IAA (1 ppm). Meanwhile, the percentage of explant survival did not have a significant effect.

Abstract

Background: Red Yellow Podzolic (Ultisol) soil has low fertility, which inhibits the growth of Betara areca nut (Areca catechu L.) seedlings. The combination of vermicompost and coconut water liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) has the potential to improve this condition. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the main and interactive effects of vermicompost and coconut water LOF on the growth of Betara areca nut seedlings in Ultisol soil. Methods: The research employed a 4×4 factorial completely randomized design with three replicates. The first factor was vermicompost dosage (0, 50, 100, and 150 g/polybag), and the second factor was coconut water LOF concentration (0%, 25%, 50%, and 75%). Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaf sheaths, stem diameter, leaf area, leaf sheath length, fresh weight, dry weight, root length, and root volume. Results: The interaction between vermicompost and coconut water LOF significantly affected plant height, number of leaf sheaths, stem diameter, leaf area, leaf sheath length, and root volume. The best treatment was the combination of 150 g/polybag vermicompost and 75% coconut water LOF (K3P3). Individually, vermicompost at 150 g/polybag significantly affected all parameters except interaction, while coconut water LOF at 75% concentration significantly affected all parameters except dry weight. Conclusions: The combination of vermicompost and coconut water LOF significantly enhances the vegetative growth of Betara areca nut seedlings, with the K3P3 treatment being the most effective
