Abstract

This study was aimed to describe the effectiveness of scientific approach to enhance students critical thinking skills and scientific attitudes on mixtures separation topic. The method used was quasi experimental by using the matching only pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this research was all of seventh grader students of SMPN 22 Bandarlampung and it was obtained class VIIB as experiment class and VIID as control class. The samples were obtained by purposive sampling technique. The effectiveness of scientific approach was determined by the enhancement of n-gain value of students critical thinking skills which were tested statistically by t-test and also determined by students scientific attitudes. The results showed that implementation of scientific approach was effective to enhance students critical thinking skills and scientific attitudes in the learning of mixtures separation topic.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan efektivitas pendekatan saintifik dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan sikap ilmiah siswa pada materi pemisahan campuran. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi eksperimen dengan desain the matching only pretest-posttest control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 22 Bandarlampung dan diperoleh kelas VIIB sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIID sebagai kelas kontrol. Sampel penelitian tersebut diperoleh melalui teknik purposive sampling. Efektivitas pendekatan saintifik ditentukan dari peningkatan n-gain keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa yang diuji secara statistik dengan uji t dan peningkatan sikap ilmiah siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran dengan pendekatan saintifik efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan sikap ilmiah siswa pada materi pemisahan campuran.Kata kunci: keterampilan berpikir kritis, pemisahan campuran, pendekatan saintifik, sikap ilmiah

Abstract

Magnetic zeolite is a composite material that combines the porous characteristics of zeolite with the magnetic separation capability of magnetic nanoparticles. This study discusses the development of magnetic zeolite synthesis using several main methods, including hydrothermal synthesis, coprecipitation, and dry-gel conversion, each offering different levels of control over particle size, surface area, and magnetic strength of the resulting composite. The synthesized materials generally possess a high surface area and strong magnetic response, making  them  effective  for adsorbing heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions. The reported maximum adsorption capacities reach 625 mg g⁻¹ for Pb(II), 204 mg g⁻¹ for Cd(II), 181 mg g⁻¹ for Cu(II), more than 400 mg g⁻¹ for Cr(VI), and around 42 mg g⁻¹ for Ni(II). According to various studies, the adsorption of heavy metal ions onto magnetic zeolite commonly follows the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm, indicating that the adsorption process is dominated by a monolayer chemisorption mechanism. In addition to its high adsorption capacity, the main advantage of magnetic zeolite is the ease of separating it from the solution using an external magnetic field, making it an efficient adsorbent that can be easily recovered and reused.
