Abstract

The problem in this research was the low speaking skills of fifth grade students at SDN 5 Sukajawa Bandar Lampung. The objective of this research was to find out the effect of applying the debate method towards students' speaking skills. The type of this research was an experimental study with a pre-experimental design using one-group pre-test-post-test. The population in this research was 94 people from VA, VB, and VC classes. The sample was obtained by usingĀ  purposive sampling technique consisted of 32 people. The data were collected by using observation technique and documentation technique. Having learned through the debate method, the students got better speaking performance which means that their speaking skills significantly increased. Furthermore, the hypothesis was analyzed by using simple regression which r count r table that is 0.820 0.349, so the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted which means there is an effect of applying debate method to the students' speaking skills.Masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah keterampilan berbicara peserta didik kelas V di SDN 5 Sukajawa Bandar Lampung cenderung rendah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan metode debat terhadap keterampilan berbicara peserta didik. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen dengan desain pre-eksperimen dengan bentuk one-group pre-test-post-test design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 94 orang dari kelas VA, VB, dan VC. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah teknik purposive sampling. Sampel berjumlah 32 orang. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik observasi dan teknik dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan adanya peningkatan keterampilan berbicara peserta didik setelah melaksanakan metode debat dalam pembelajaran. Analisis hipotesis menggunakan regresi sederhana menunjukan r hitung r tabel yaitu 0,820 0,349 sehingga hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima yang berarti ada pengaruh penerapan metode debat terhadap keterampilan berbicara peserta didik.Kata kunci: Metode Debat dan Keterampilan Berbicara.
