Abstract

Despite the increasing number of technologies and levels of educational technology provided by teacher education programmes, valid and high-level integration of technology into learning and teaching processes is not still as expected, like the Google classroom for learning. The study purposively investigated the adequacy of the Google classroom application as a teaching tool in the training of pre-service teachers by their educators. Three specific purposes and questions were raised. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Pre-service teacher educators of the Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, constituted the target population. A simple random sampling procedure was adopted in the selection of 107 out of 197 Pre-service educators. A -14 item five-point-Likert scale researchers designed a questionnaire with psychometric properties of content validity of 0.90, and a reliability index of 0.81 was used to elicit the needed data from the respondents. The statistics collected were analysed using percentage, mean ranking and standard deviation. Moreover, the findings, among others, revealed that the Google classroom application is not adequate for training pre-service teachers. Thus, it was recommended that the Google classroom application should not be adopted in the teaching of pre-service teachers education programmes since it was found not adequate

Abstract

The culture of chastity and purity is no longer promoted and encouraged among the youths, especially those who are out for school in tertiary institutions. This study, therefore, investigated the Causes and Consequences of Cohabitation among Students of Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey was adopted for the study where 200 students from 0ND2 and HND2 were purposively chosen and then selected at random. A researcher designed a questionnaire in a Likert scale of Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree and Strongly Disagree containing 16 items but divided into two halves into causes and consequences of cohabitation was the instrument used for the collection of data. The data was validated via experts and the test-retest method was used to arrive at a reliability index of 0.69. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics. Mean ratings of simple percentages were used to answer the research questions. Causes of cohabitation were seen to include among others insufficient on-campus accommodation, financial distress, fear of losing loved ones, moral and religious decadence while death, STDs, drop out of school poor academic performance and health or social issues were seen as some of the consequences of cohabitation. It was recommended among others that the school authority should try to provide sufficient on-campus accommodation for the students.

Abstract

Abstract. This study examines how secondary school plays its role as a custodian of moral values in society. What it takes to teach moral values in the school. What are the facilities, subjects, punishments, as well as teaching methods adopted by the school? All these are what the study set out to examine. This was verified using 15 purposively sampled secondary schools in the Sokoto metropolis. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. A questionnaire with psychometrics properties of 0.72 and 0.81 for validity and reliability respectively, was used to elicit the needed data from the respondents which constituted both teachers and students of the selected schools. The findings reveal the current state secondary school Sokoto state lacks in its role to serve as a custodian of moral values, from its facilities, subjects, enforcing conformity, and teaching strategies. In conclusion, for secondary school to perform its role as custodian of moral values, it was recommended among others that there should be the provision of more facilities conducive to teaching and learning in the schools to enable the secondary school plays its role as a custodian of moral values in the society.

Abstract

This research work was carried out to investigate and ascertain how scores from overloaded continuous assessment (C.A) timetable predict senior school students’ academic performance in economics in Ilorin south local government. The study adopted an ex-post-facto design, and sample senior school (SS-II) students as the target population from nine randomly selected senior schools in Ilorin south local government. A hundred and eighty-two senior school students’ 2019 C.A and examination were sampled with the use of proforma. The data collected was analyzed using the mean score and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation. The findings revealed that the students’ performance in economics C.A was low as a result of the overloaded in the C.A timetable. The result indicated that there was a significant relationship between senior school students’ C.A score and their economics examination at 0.05 level of significance. Based on these findings, it is recommended that school administrators should ensure that C.A timetable is properly designed and structured in a way that will enhance the performance of students in economics C.A in Ilorin south local government

Abstract

The study investigated the state of basic education in the Nigerian international border communities of Sokoto State. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A multistage sampling technique was adopted for the selection of  597 out of 3,876 respondents. A 29 items four-point-Likert scale Researcher’s designed questionnaire that was translated into Arabic and Hausa languages with psychometric properties of content validity 0.80, 0.75, and 0.87and a reliability coefficient of 0.76, 0.82, and 0.71 while the interview items have a content validity of 0.77 and a reliability coefficient  0.78 was used to elicit the needed data. descriptive and Inferential statistic was used to analyze the data. Findings revealed that parental, teachers, governmental, and facilities factors pose challenges to basic education in the border areas, among others. Educational policymakers are recommended to take necessary measures to decentralized the curriculum of the education system in Nigeria to takes care of the educational needs of a different society.
